www.nasaforums.com I've been running with NASA since '05ish and now instruct and run TimeTrials. Mid-Atlantic is my home region but I venture into the South East to run Road Atlanta when I can.

www.nasagreatlakes.com

Upper right hand corner - Getting started with NASA 101, 102, 103
3 vids shot in our region a couple of years ago. Good basic information.

$40 a year, includes subscription to Grassroots Motorsports magazine.
You need to join to participate in any events.

Before you join, come to an event in your region for a couple of hours. Just walk around the paddock to see if this is something you want to do. Ask anybody about anything you want -no matter what level -- HPDE to Racers -- we all love to talk about what we do!

Great people, great times. Serious fast fun.

Next event is 4-30 at TWS .
I also instruct and run Time Trial.
I believe they have a $40 for 1 session with instructor special if you would just like a small taste of the track.

Perhaps you could stay in your own region

We have these in MA too... they call them hyperdrives. Basically you get 1 HPDE session with an instructor to get your feet wet w/o having to commit to an entire weekend. Once you do it you'll be hooked... everyone is.

From what I've seen I ain't drivin' that far for that track. Kind of like you wouldn't drive up for a NCCAR weekend.

EDIT - Thanks for bailing on the surprise VIR trip this weekend... you just guaranteed two beautiful sunny days

Nah - it's a fun little track. It's very much a setup/drivers track - kinda like a really big autocross with a couple of straightaways.
Heck it's 4 hours for me and I've made every event there since early '09.
It's no VIR or Rd Atl, but definitely worth a visit.

You can't tell me this doesn't look like fun.

In general, you're better off with a crack habit than a track habit. It's cheaper in the long run.

There are also other groups who do their own track days. The drivers edge (www.thedriversedge.net) runs all around the state, apex (http://apexdrivingacademy.com) runs at MSR cresson, and eagles canyon in decatur (http://www.eaglescanyon.com) runs their own track days as well. Ive run events with the drivers edge, NASA and eagles canyon at eagles canyon and MSR cresson, and all are good groups to run with, depending on what you are looking for. If you eventually want to race or do time trials NASA is the way to go, but for just learning at first I liked the drivers edge better. The NASA racing is also much more fun to watch than a group that only does HPDE. The ECR track day I went to was nice because there werent too many people there so the track was wide open, it was only one day, and it was cheaper than the others. Either way, hopefully I'll see you at the track, and it probably would be cheaper to have a crack habit, but not nearly as much fun.

Plus CMP is a safe track. Its fun to really push it there because there arent many walls to hit and plenty of run off....

I'm not so sure. All those trees scare the crap out of me.
Other than the T1 launching pad at Roebling, I'd say CMP needs more safety work than any track that I run on.
