230 is a whole new ball game from 200. Wonder what happen? Mechanical failure or some bad aero? Hope no injuries and the rest is money only.

That's very true. With the power it takes to drive a stock bodied car to well over 200 hp you have a scenario where you can overdrive the rear wheels and get loose, even in a straight line. Just because you are trying to go straight, doesn't make it easy when you are trying to go that fast. Remember C&D spun and flipped their Camaro at the salt flats the same way. Big power can get you in trouble even on the straights...

I remember the work LPE put in the Firebird to get to try to get to 300 mph in a stock body car. They fell a few miles short of 300. Slightest aero screw up and your gone. Not sure if this was a stock bodied Vette but it may have made enough lift at 230 for that to happen and the slightest bump would really help it upward. Even most exotic limit there cars to a bit over 200 as it is bad to kill your customers.

Wild wild guess and speculation on my part but it don't look like much rake. Thanks for the picture. Splitter may have contributed with all that taped. It may have changed the shaped a bit. I can't really tell but it seems that way or would a stock car look like that? I would think you need to build speed with testing and feeling few MPH at a time. Someone could just put there foot in it with mega power and be caught off guard with little or no warning.

not sure how much tires can grow although I know they do. Looks like decent clearance in the picture for sure. I guess Hinson will tell the story. 230 no joke because things happen fast. I have been to 190 in my car before the body. 160 to 190 is way different and 200 to 230 is probably much much more of a jump.

I thought they had a tech inspection for that event?
Wonder if snow tires would have been OK?
DR's for a mile run?
Very glad they are ok.
OK, I want to temper my comments a bit, after watching the Hinson post on Youtube, a brave, brash effort for a record, a part failed, need more focus on the suspension/aero/wheel/tire but they already know that.
Big ones on that driver.

I run the newer MT DRs on my car. and since I am always going uber fast I did some checking. Although they dont come with a speed rating, they told me i wouldnt go much over 180mph with them, and def not for long periods at top speed. 230mph is ludicris to use those tires.
