The last 2 years I have been running Kumho XS and have been very pleased with the tire. This year I am looking for more. I would love to go to a tire like the A6 but I have 7 events a year and have a 200 mile round trip minimum for each race. I don't have a trailer and it is not in the cards this year to get one.

Would the Toyo R888 be a good choice?

I have run R888;s as street tires and they are fine, I have only raced on them as rain tires. I can say they are way better than my old strret tires( dunlop 8000's) for performance, but no where near A6's on the autox. The Spec miata guys were forced into using them and hated them. the series went back to the RA1 tire this year. The reported less grip, shorter life and harder set up of the cars

I have never autox'd on R888's before but have on shaved RA-1's. Took too long to get heat in them. If the R888's are better at getting heat in them quickly I would give them a shot.

I had a C6 and used the R888's at summit and VIR during HPDE's for the full course events and now went back to the C5Z06. The tires stuck real nice and seemed to hold on. The temp at VIR was 100 degrees plus so there was no problems getting heat into them. Everyone has different views and it all seems like a personal choice.

I also have a nearly 200-mile round trip to most autocrosses in my 67 Vette. I ran 12 autoxes last year on Nitto NT-01 which are a DOT 100 tire with minimal tread. They are nowhere near worn out, and they work very well on the track. I had to skip a couple of autoxes because I would of had to drive in heavy rain, which these tires definitely would not be up to. This year I'm upping the ante to Kumho 710s.

Sorry to say, it's hard to beat the Kumho XS for what you are doing. They are a very good tire at a very good price. Some people are running the "newer" Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 which is similar to the Kumho XS. Check sizes for your car as not all are available.

I'd stick with the XS's

My local autoX group recommended Falken Azenis RT-615s to me. I have ran them for the last few years, and they seem to do well. Just giving you another option to look into.

Thanks for the feedback. After looking at the operating temp of the R888 I'm not sure I would ever get 160+ degrees in the tires for an autocross. I think for this year I will stick with my Kumho XS for a few races and then switch to the Bridgestone RE11.
