Lou Gigliotti wins 2nd round at Firebird, Phoenix, AZ!
Congratulations on a good win to Lou Gigliotti at Phoenix's Firebird Raceway, in the Redline Track Challenge today. As Lou promised not to be out horsepowered again like at the series opener at Willow Springs. This proved to be important with Firebird's 5/8 of a mile straight beating all import tuner challengers. With this track's tricky traction conditions on the Tower Turn, Lou managed to keep the other imports on the paint and walking away from them! A Corvette record of 1:01.2 minute laptime was set!
Several ACR (Az. Corvette Racing Club) members dropped by to give Lou support. Lou was quite corgile as he and his team readied for the Sunday afternoon's final event.
Great fun and much improved weather from Saturday's rain limited practice time. Eye candy was also on supply as Track Events had the girls in a contest too.

Thanks Guys,
I am on the plane heading home as I type. It is a great format having 2 lap shootouts. We had the top end on most of them but my car was pushing like a pig in turn 1&2. We are using enduracne tires with tire warmers which worked well for qualigying but we could not use the in between runs,
I did some creative road hogging to hold them off in the first two turns then I could stretch a small gap.
I did not want to give them an opening in the last turn leading on to the drag strip so I ran it tight. This turned the last straight into drag race 3 times. the margin in one rce was 8 thousandths of a second as we crossed the line.
Regardless, we pulled it off. Anthony and my son Louis were both there to make this all happen. I could not do it withoug them.
Hey, this is not American Lemans racing but it is fun having to let it all hang out with just 2 laps to go each time. Green/white/checkered racing without the middle hours of wear and tear.
Thanks again guys, We plan on fixing our handling problem before we head out to the next race.
Thanks.
Lou Gigliotti
PS, door number 4 from the left was also a good choice

Great job I am pretty frekin impressed at how well the 350z stayed with you on the straight. Watching your car and the other corvette that was there definitely inspired me to build a track car. Currently looking for Vette #15 and might of found one locally that needs a motor .
and will end up surly using your long tube headers again
P.S
In case your don't remember me I am the guy who works for Whiteline and we sponsor the Modified series with Redline. See you at California Speedway next month!

My brother Bob and I attended the final on Sunday as well and found many interesting things to look at . Lou, Louis and Anthony were great to talk to. The racing format was a "Fast 8" run in a standard double elimination bracket. Once Lou trounced the #8 car in the first round, the pairings provided some surprisingly close racing. We have always been motorsports addicts but we found this format both unique and very entertaining. Of course, rooting for Lou and having him win made it all the better. However, there was a normally aspirated 350Z race car from Fontana Nissan that was WAY faster than it should have been. He gave Lou a real run for his money twice but the Vette was just a little too strong. All in all, a great day.

Thanks again guys,
The 350 Z started life as a Grand Am car just like our Corvette. We upped the engine anti to a world Challenge spec LS3 with no restrictor. It looks like the Z did some extra work on it as well. We had him on the very top end but his gearing and good traction made the race really exciting and really close.
I think we won one race by about 18 Inches!!
My car was terrible in turn 1 & 2. It probably had something to do with the fact that we are running a medium compound long endurance Pirelli Tire that needs 2-3 laps to heat up and with this format, the race is OVER when our tires finally get up to temp.
Regardless, it was more fun than we ever expected and I really do like the "shootout" format.
See you at the races.

Congrats on the win.........deserved for sure.
I am not the sharpest tool in the shed by any means, but in that format I'd be using the Hoosier A6.....really BIG ones at that. You'll be able to go into T1 with your "hair on fire" and you'll be able to leave those warmers in the trailer.

We also have to use the same tire from the Qualifying session, then the 5 lap race, then 8 two lap runs. So we know the Autocross compound won't work but maybe the R compound will.
I have to do some testing. The Nissan was using Yokohama Super Soft tires, good for only 30 laps total before the rubber is gone. 30 laps is just about enough to get the job done. Problem is that they were made for "time Attack" 2 lap runs and Yokohama builds them in Japan. SO, there is no supply of these tires in the US in our size and doesn't look good for more to come from japan since their earth quake.
We will figure something out.

Isn't that a DOT tire? the Pirelli M compound are 2 seconds faster than the new Hoosier slicks (continental slicks) in grand Am. and the Hoosiers are 7 pounds heavier for each tire. (28 pounds total) and it is rotating mass.
