Default AS (AStock) or ASP (Steet Prepared)??

Regarding local autocross using SOLO rules :
Can a stock non-Z51 C5 have the rear sway bar changed to stock Z51
and remain in the AS (A Stock) class, or does that put you into
ASP (A Street Prepared) ?? It is still a stock component, and a Z51 would run in AS.

You can stay in AS only if you change everything else to Z51 also. I believe you could get the Z51 with any option package so you would have to change are the springs and the rear bar (and the rear axle ratio if you don't have that already and you have an automatic). You would also have to add the power steering cooler. Shocks and front bar are free so you can run whatever you want there. As long as you change everything, you can stay in AS.

Some of the ASP guys go with the smaller rear bar to get more power down on exit, fwiw. What you really want with the Z51 package are the stiffer springs.

Under the new classes wouldn't it be AS or BSP?

I was hoping for that when I looked into an AS car, but all the C5s go to ASP. I guess the class restructuring that was done a few years ago mainly took place in the stock classes.

The way I read the new rules, stock, it's AS (Pg 158), (rule 13.7)until you change the rear sway bar, then ASP (rule 15.7) if you add cold air intake, rear sway bar, etc
The C6's and Z06's run SS

To remain in a stock class, you couldn't change just the rear sway bar, but the front sway bar is free, so you could do whatever you want with it instead if that would help.

I changed both stock sway bars to C6Z51's from GM Parts House. I had been told that as long as the bars were OEM and a stock option I could replace them booth. But, the SOLO rule book seems to say different.

Technically you are not legal for AS than, although most won't know or care locally. what you wanted was the c5 Z51 sways and springs.

I wasnt going to mention the "C6" part, just the Z51, and like you say, there really isn't anyone to care as I'm the only one in AS, and no one is in ASP right now anyway.
Although, you know how pissy some club people can be over almost nothing.
Plus, I'm just running for fun anyway, or else I'd go buy $1000 worth of shocks and $1000 worth of tires.
It seems that, you are ALWAYS racing wallets rather than cars no matter where you are on the racing food chain

Keep the front bar and change back to the original rear, which would be better for autocross anyway. Stay in AS.

I would definately try that combo, could be pretty nice. Especially if you tend to loose.

Well, its a pretty simple 40 minute job to change it back, but, then I've got a $100 sway bar sitting in my garage. I guess there is ebay
