Race Video NASA ST2 Autobahn Country Club April 2011
First and foremost, Congratulations to Don (autobahnracer) with the overall win today in the Thunder Race. His Blackdog ST1 Corvette has been the new force at the club this year.
Being it was at the home track I ran my SCCA T1 car in NASA ST2. Thanks to Falcon, Raft, AU N EGL and others who discussed the class with me.
I've run the Beast in NASA Enduros but not the 2002 C5. I was skeptical at first because a T1 car is under-equipped versus what's allowed on an ST2 car. Despite SCCA allowing the C5 to recently get headers and brakes, my car is still bone stock in both of those departments. The only aero I have is when I stick my hand out the window.
The conditions were awful with sleet the first day and bitter cold today, but overall it was a great event.
Dave and his NASA crew did a stellar job answering questions and running a very fun event. The NASA racers were a much different breed than what I've experienced in SCCA. Generally, they were much friendlier and more respectful playing fair on track.
I didn't qualify every well despite having the home field advantage but that's the way it goes. There was a lotus and an EVO who had the advantage given the weather. The Lotus weighing nothing and the EVO with 4 wheel drive on a relatively lower speed track had the edge.
Fellow member clubracer6 (with crew 96collectorsport) ran quicker than me in qualifying and I was looking forward in trying to narrow the margin at race time. He unfortunately had limp-mode car issues all weekend and never got a fair shot.
It was great meeting SDF, Gman57 and a few others. Gman57 has the best wife in the world as she sat in the truck supporting him (despite many invites to come hang at the garage) like a stranded person in winter. SDF and crew were class acts and it was good to put a face with numerous calls and PMs.
ST2 seems like a great class which is killing me. If I convert the T1 car to ST2 so it's competitive, it's going to take a few bucks. I already have a car (the Beast) that vies for every last dollar. Damn, wish it wasn't so fun!

Hell, it's only money, Mike! Just keep dumping it in there.
I just put $700 into a new seat last week, and the quest never ends!
Glad you had fun! The video was good!

One car is just an expensive habit, two cars is certified addiction and two cars with big garage means you have actually died and gone to heaven.

What could it cost? Less than a new BEAST MOTOR, I guarantee it!

Thanks to Greg and Todd (GT Track Tires), I ran the Sunday race on the Continental Tires (scrubs from Daytona). Different than my Hoosier R80 and R100 from previous years, but damn good. The air temp yesterday was never above 40-degrees, and I ran a qualifying lap in the 1:31's. After a qualify and race, the tires look great. Given that these tires are built for similar weight cars, but used in 2 1/2 Hour Enduros, and often on high banking, I'm confident I'll get great use/longevity, and at a fraction of the cost of new.
I'm SOLD!

I was telling him to drop an ls6 into the beast. A sequential would ROCK in st2.
