NEW ZZ3 ForgeLine wheel








ForgeLine's newest wheel, the ZZ3 now uses the latest in their race wheel design and I-beam spoke CNC programming. This new I beam design, first shown on the GA3R wheel, not only reduces weight of the wheel, but also radically increases stiffness of the wheel. A stiffer wheel means less deflection, quicker driver response, better tire wear, among other things.

The new ZZ3 wheel is also a hidden bolt design like the GA3R wheel. This keeps all of the hardware of the three piece wheel hidden from view. The bolts insert from the back side into the threaded center portion of the wheel. You still get all of the benefits and features of a three piece wheel, while maintaining the look of a one piece.

ZZ3 is produced using our traditional forging method utilizing 6061-T6 aluminum with heat-treated rim-shells. Just like any FORGELINE wheel, the ZZ3 will be fully customizable in fitment and finish, including center-lock applications*.

The computer model enables us to analyze the design under a simulated load and optimize it before machining begins. Then we test our finished products beyond SAE standards and use real-life racing variables when determining our test criteria.

ForgeLine centers are created using a 6000 ton hydraulic press - a modernized version of forging proven successful for hundreds of years. The press forges the wheel center into its general shape. It is then CNC machined to create the design style.



Why forged? Forging aligns the grain structure, reduces porosity, and increases uniformity in the material, thereby increasing the strength to weight ratio with consistent results. Forging also allows the use of 6061 material which can be heat treated to be 40% stronger than cast aluminum.

Are these offered with through fasteners? Threading a bolt into the aluminum center vs a through bolt and nut aren't even comparable in strength. Would be great if I could get these with through bolts.

Great question..

I talked to Dave (owner) at ForgeLine today about this as I had wondered myself due to some customers wanting to actually see the bolt, not really a strength issue.

Now before we go real far, do keep in mind that every wheel is tested on the computer, in simulations, as well as destructive testing before it ever sees a car. All are done to far exceed the limits you would see at full race pace.

A number of wheel makers have done this before just like BBS and HRE. We have used this as well on the ZR1 and GrandAM car with the new GA3R wheel and have found zero issues with this.

ForgeLine uses helicoils in the center of the wheel to make sure that there is a good engagement of thread between the parts. Dave sent me some data as well if you would like me to show you.



If it wouldn't work on the race track, they are not going to sell it to the customer. Strength and safety are #1
