For HPDE's - Michelin Super Sports vs R888's
Anyone have any experience with "BOTH" tires.
I have R888's on my base C6 and have been happy with wear & perf - 7 Track Days & 5k miles, they now need replacing.
Appreciate any first hand observations,
Ed

I ran R888s for two years before I had a trailer. I'd drive to the track, run them in the rain or the dry and had a great time.
I ran through a set of Michelin PS/2s on the street and just replaced the rears with Pilot Super Sports. My only HPDE where I used the Super Sports was at Mosport, however the weather was 38 deg-F and heavy rain. The combination of cold and wet made them pretty useless. Cars with Hoosier Wets kicked my butt in the time trial.
Unfortunately all the wet conditions I have to compare the R888s to was at least 50 or 60 deg-F. Would the Pilot Super Sports have done better in 60 deg-F weather? Certainly! As good as the R888s? Don't know for sure yet.
I can tell you that on the street, in the dry, and at the same temps, the R888s sandblasted the side of my car more with crap they pulled up from the road. So if I was going to buy a tire just for HPDE and didn't have a trailer, I think I'd go with the R888s.

The Michelin SS's come in the same 255 / 295 sizes, which is why I have an interest.

Went to order R888's today and was told the fronts - 255/35/18 were on national back order and not available for at least a few weeks.
So, I ordered the Michelin Super Sports - 255/35/18 & 295/30/19 (same as R888's).
I will report back after a few events.

michelin marketing people get a lot of credit for hyping them up as street/track tire when it has clearly been intended as PS2 upmarket option for a street tire.
a fair comparison would be michelin PS Cups vs 888 but all reviews I have seen (michelin-sponsored, no doubt) conviniently leave that out, instead regurgitating Michelin's talking points about le mans this and endurance racing that
BTW, have you seen that 2012 Z 'vettes get PS Cup tires??? 10 years too late but hey who's counting

I'm about to pull the trigger on a dedicated set of track-day tires. Arrive & drive, durable, yet fast to put on a spare set of gumbies. I saw this thread. I'm struggling with the idea that the Michelins with an - albeit subjective - self imposed treadwear rating of 300 would compete with R888s, which is what I had decided on. If I can't find 'em, I'll just wait.

Michelin are claiming this is the fastest street tire, so in order to be so it must beat tires like the Dunlops.

Does the lower profile, compared to stock, have much effect on ride quality in normal street use?

The slightly smaller diameter rear did cause my speedo to be off by approx. 2 mph @ 65mph on the high side.
