Default C5Z autox tire sizes, specific question on A6 fronts

Looking at the A6 285/30/zr18 and 295/30zr18 they are very close (within a tenth) on most measurements except tire height 24.9 for the 285 vs 25.3 for the 295.

I never hear of anyone running the 285 and I am thinking it might be equally good if not better than the 295.

Everyone is all about lowering the car (especially front) for better front grip/turn in, so why not use the 285 to help a little?

Your thoughts?

You're talking ASP and beyond in the SCCA?? I think most run a 315/18 on the front in ASP, etc...

I would run 315's if possible. Otherwise 295. The taller tires will handle braking better than the 285 which has a very short sidewall.

Front rim is a 17 inch so the 285/30/18 is out unless you want to move up a class to ASP and use the 18 inch rims. I think Danny Popp used to advocate an 18 inch rim on the front and a 17 in the back with a 315/335 shoeing. The shorter sidewall will give you a crisper turn-in, but might lose some lateral grip due to reduced compliance in the corners as well as reduced braking (IMHO braking is way over rated in autox).

The hot ticket for the local guys up here is 315's on stock C5Z rear wheels all the way around. No rubbing and the lateral grip is amazing.

I'm trying 295's A6's all around this year. Had 315's v710's last year on c5z wheels felt to me they rolled over to much . I hope the rain hold off and I can given a try this weekend.
