Default DEI Cool Tape for joint boots

Hello folks,

Following many recommendations from this forum, I am about to order some DEI Cool Tape to wrap my lower ball joint and outer tie rod ends. Do I need the 1 3/8 width:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DEI-010408/

Or the 2in width?
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DEI-010413/

2in is significantly more expensive, so I'd like to get away with the 1 3/8 if possible.

Thanks!

I have both... I honestly can't remember which I used.. but here's a picture for reference. I'm thinking 2" is what works best.

EDIT - Those links you posted are for a 15' roll of 1 3/8" and a 60' roll of 2", that's why the 2" is so much more expensive.

I use off the shelf metal tape.

I was thinking the narrow tape will conform better to the odd shape being wrapped. I have also used regular alum tape which is almost free.

Not sure it makes much difference as long as you do something.

Looking At the pic, I noticed a plastic zip tie. I would recommend a stainless steel zip or safety wire.

The spindle blocks the heat from the upper joint.

Oddly enough I've been doing it this way for over 5 years w/o issue. The DEI tape apparently reflects enough heat that the standard plastic ties have no issues. I've never had one melt or fail.

I also used a fire resistant tape with a layer of heavy aluminum foil held in place with a wire ties over all of the boots. No problems with the plastic wire ties melting.
