Default Valerie is back from the dead, a few hot laps around Grattan

http://vimeo.com/25062115

Here are 2 laps, the first being a 1:29.122 and the second being a 1:28.551.
Notice that on the second lap I shut the car down and didn't get back into it till corner 1, I gave up 1/2 the straight away. It was a last minute decision to go hot for that second lap.

I would guess it's a TTA car the TTA record is a 1:27.1, I think the fastest I've been with my 03 Z06 is a 1:27.5. I was very surprised at how fast she got around. This is not a weak track record, Carlyle, Smith, White, Cisler & Dansbury have all run this track in TTA trim two of those being National TTA Champions.

1991 base corvette, base suspension w 156k mile, Z51 front bars, QA1 shocks (12 years old), one rear blown out and leaking, stock brakes, pads Auto Zone (what they had), tires 20+ heat cycled R80s 265 18s, It's an automatic with 3.42 rears so I should get to 135ish in third but it's slipping so bad I only can get to 115 1/2 way down the straight and I have to peddle it, you can see when I get out of it from the camera,(it stops shaking)

BTW the car is for sale

Ken,
Nice video. It's a little hard to tell; can you confirm that they have repaved the whole track?

Thanks
Ken

She wasn't dead. She was just hibernating.

Nice video just a little late. I was at Gratten last weekend for the first time. First couple of laps are real scary. Turn 3 falling away , getting airborne on the back I think it is coming into 5 and the really nasty slick spot coming onto the front streatch. I was in the silver Z06 running in HPDE 3/4 group. By mid-afternoon Sat. I was a little more comfortable. Will be more prepared next time, hopefully running in TTA for next visit.

Good lap! how were the R80s for TT? Dont they need several laps to get up to temp? Your times looked pretty good though!

I think if I could run more than one hot lap I would been able to get those lap times down farther. After about one lap I was pushing so much oil on the headers it was smoking pretty bad and with a auto I didn't want to over heat anything not to mention the brakes. My goal was to post a lap so i could get two TTs toward Nationals and bring the car home so I could drive her to work on Monday.

To answer your question they stuck better at the end of the lap than the first corner but all and all I was inpressed they were no new either. I'm positive if I could have gotten 3 hot laps, I could use the whole front straight & I had some better pads a 1:26 would have been in sight. But I didn't so a 1.28.5 is what's official.

Great; I'm looking forward to trying it later this year.

Does that car have a trans temp gauge? I know mine used to get real hot real fast before I added another cooler and swapped the first one out for a more efficient one.

How do you think the new pavement affected your time?

Ken never went around the bump at the beginning of the front straight so new pavement doesn't really affect him.

NICE Is that a 383 or stock L98? Also, where did you get the 3.42 gears?

Maybe more grip, but I don't have apples to apples comparison. A couple SM guys said it seemed a little slower, some said faster so whon knows. I have a gauge but it's not hooked up to my trans

It's a dana 44 conversion, out of a 1994 six speed

Track looks alot wider . Ive set a couple sets of autozone pads on fire ,
How they hold up to Gratten ?

I have a C-Beam question

Is the beam differant from a d44 on the trans side compared to a D36 c beam
Taking a TKO 500 from a d44 and putting it in front of a d36. Is the braket differant ?

Those are decent times btw thanks for posting

I'm not sure but when you install a Dana 44 you need to use the C Beam from a manuel C4. The beam bolt up points are the same I believe just the length is different.

I only ran 2 hot laps max and a 50% warm up and 75% cool down, no issues with pads but I didn't brake deep at all

That's a good time for a forged 383 with a mini ram and slicks that's "just like" a TTA car....

My guess is that Nathan or Rory would be in the low 25's on the new pavement.......

Great job bringing the old girl out of retirement. Mid Ohio is waiting.
