Radiator fans on a track only car?
I have a 2000 C5 with an essentially stock LS1 that I use as a track only car. I am stripping it to save weight including the interior, A/C, etc.
I recently replaced the stock dual radiator fan unit with a single 10" fan. My thought is I should not need the fans on the track and the single small fan will help with overheating on the grid.
I haven’t taken it out in this configuration yet. I am now questioning if I did the right thing. Does the stock radiator really need the fans to keep the engine cool even at speed?
I searched the forum and found several references to no fans on aftermarket radiator but no examples of no fans on stock radiators.
Anyone here have experience with this?
Thanks,
John

I ran without and the car is fine on track, but you inevitably get hung up getting onto grid, off track, or even loading the car on the trailer. I put in a small 10" elec fan which I will be trying out for the first time next week. I can tell you it is not big enough to maintain temp at idle, but it definitely slows down the process. I'll let you know how it goes.
