Default C5Z HCI vs C6Z

C5Z has H/C/I, LG G2 coil-overs, etc

C6Z is stock

both dyno at 440 rwhp

both have same R compound tires on stock wheels

how close are their track times ?

edit: see post # 14 - same question - slightly different twist.

c6z gearing is better. less shifts. more rubber. I say c6z wins, on average, since this is hypothetical.

440 peak hp is not the same as similar power curves. The C6 by virtue of its larger motor has more torque across the rpm range. More acceleration available for longer periods of time.

Don't forget about weight? Not sure the specifics, but pretty sure the c5z is lighter... Gearing all depends on the track... Coilovers are worth some time also.. My guess would be the times would be similar...

The car with the better driver in it will be faster.

Ok Now the C5 Z with Heads and Cam Which heads and which cam?

too big of heads or too big of cam will mean the car will not last long before problems happen.

Most guys go with drag racing heads and big cams, does not cut it on a road course.

better driver for sure will play the biggest roll but the whole package that the c6z has to offer is very quick. I am at about 430 to the rear and always find it difficult to stick with a c6z at VIR ... darn things are just fast as poop and in the hands of like driver its just darn right tough for me to consistently stick with them... well should admit I cant stick with them lol

I was assuming same driver for this exercise and stock size rubber on each car since the OP says stock wheels. I think the times are close, but c6z comes out on top.

I have a 2007 Z06 and a 2000 FRC with Heads, cam, exhaust. Both cars weigh roughly the same. Both cars are making the same peak power withing 10%. I don't have coil overs but I do have Pfadt shocks and sway bar. Both cars have stock wheels with similar tire compounds (not race). I have had both to the track and Autocross and the Z06 is a better track car. As indicated the Z06 has better gearing, better power band, better brakes, bigger wheels, better stability control, etc. IMHO - It is flat out a better platform then the C5. That being said both are a good track car and it is relative close times for me and I am a novice. I got the 2000 so I did not beat on the 2007 too much on the track.

Mark

I'd say the C6Z but I bet it's closer than most think. Same R comps on both cars is gonna produce nearly equal braking and lat forces. Peak power is similar, 5-7k is gonna be both engines operating RPM (low end torque no issue), LS7 will have a bit more torque @ 5k, and it should even out from there. C5Z has a more aggressive 3rd gear though, and far less unsprung weight.

line 'em up

maybe the question should have been posed another way...

"what track upgrades would be required on a C5Z in order to match stock C6Z lap times - same driver - R compounds ?"

Just turn the "Don't Give a Damn ****" to 11....

Nearly stock TTA Z06 on 255 A6s (361 rwhp) chasing a TTU C6Z06 with headers and a CAI (497 rwhp) and 315/345 A6s....

^ that is a 130 hp difference too

This can be an easy or difficult question.

We have seen in NASA races that some times a Stock C5Z engine, with aero parts and suspension (ST2 class) put down almost as fast and in some cases faster lap times then a C6Z (ST1 Class)

ie same hp/wt ratio, and BBKs to stop the C5Z Big arz sticky tires.

that said I think the C5Z drivers are just crazy fast and the C6Z drivers are a bit cautious

Probably because the well prepped C5Z can be had for half the price of a stock C6Z.

(Does that mean that crazier people can afford it or does it mean that Travis's "Don't give a damn ****" is easier to turn up to 11??)

I believe the common equivalent is, "The finest off road vehicle vehicle on the planet is a rental car."

There has been much speculation that the C5 geometry works better on a race track than the C6Z. Those T1 cars can be SO fast.

I have a 485rwhp C6Z with LG coilovers, T1 bars, BBK, and the biggest Hoosier R compounds on OEM rims, and I am just coming withing a couple tenths of the T1 lap time records. I thought for sure I would be much faster in this car than a T1, especially since I have it set up much stiffer and have no extra weight from a cage. But at the end of the day, even with the extra HP, it is dead close. I was and still are surprised.

The funny comparison, is that in the past 3 years, I haven't been beat once in my class (locally) and/or by another C6Z, but I am still 2 tenths behind the T1 lap record.
