Trans cooler w/o diff cooler?
Got the high trans temp warning for the first time ever racing at VIR this weekend. Got it the first time at the end of the day during the Comp School race on Friday and then after 17 laps (about 35 min hard running) in the hour long fun race on Sunday. Made it through the 20 and 25 min points races on Saturday w/o issue.
For years running a good synthetic ATF (I use Amsoil) and wrapping the exhaust with header wrap has sufficed for HPDE and TT use... but neither are like running all out lap after lap.
Anyone get by with just a trans cooler? Or, do most folks do both? Which one is more important?
I think I remember reading somewhere that by adding a trans cooler only you still cool the diff some since the two units are linked. I.e. cooler trans = less heat transfer to the diff.

i just added a DRM diff cooler (always had the DRM tranny piece)...thinking it could extend the life of the unit (and fill/drain intervals)..and maybe even improve the LS action ...just maybe..but that part could be a stretch.

I did some research on pumps - this one looks like the best:+

Roll your own lines and a bracket for the cooler and you should be all set.

I've been running with only a diff cooler for over a year and it did help keep the tranny slightly cooler. I didn't get the tranny overheat warning as often as I used to. However, I'm adding a tranny cooler this week because anytime I race at a track that requires 2nd gear I overheat the tranny. I thought about a diy kit, drm, and T1. I chose DRM.

Thank you sir... I really only want to do the one at this time. Hopefully the Amsoil ATF and the Severe Gear 75w110 gear lube did their jobs protecting everything. Going to drain/refill before RA in December.

Yeah mine sounds like a garbage disposal. The youtube installation video I watched mentioned that, so I didn't freak out too much, but it's still pretty loud at idle. You don't notice it at speed.

I was getting the high temp warnings and then the diff went I was bouncing of the rev limiter on every right hander. For the new build I went with this, driven coolers on both

There is no reason to use an electric pump to do this. To much added weight and power draw on the electrical system. Not only that you have to remember to actually turn it on.
If you do not have a C6 that has one or both of the factory pumps on the cars we have had a mechanical system now for years that you can use (and what we still run on the race cars to this day). We offer then in a two stage setup for trans and diff both, or single stage for either setup. Everything is ran off of the pinion nut so as soon as the car is rolling, fluid is pumping.
Moves a lot of fluid and has almost no power draw on the drivetrain to move it.
I have a number of setups from just cover and pump kits, down to full line kits with filters.
Dual stage shown above
