Default Product Spotlight: Pfadt Carbon Fiber Drive Shaft

With the race season coming to a close and the off season fast approaching it's time that folks start to think about their winter Corvette projects. One often overlooked piece of the performance puzzle is the stock torque tube and drive shaft. While it may not be at the top of the list for replacement on your C5 or C6's there are some extremely compelling reasons to upgrade to a Carbon Fiber Drive Shaft assembly.

When we designed the Pfadt Race Engineering Carbon Fiber Driveshaft we knew there was some room for improvement in extreme performance applications. Whether your drag racing with 600ftlbs of torque and slicks, Road Racing or Autocrossing on a regular basis, or your daily driver is getting up there in age, our Carbon Fiber Driveshaft offers increased durability over the stock dive shaft. The weak link isn't generally with the shaft it's self, but rather with the stock rubber guibos used to connect either end of the driveshaft. After years of heavy use and heat the rubber and wound steel cord guibos begin to break down, eventually resulting in failure that will certainly end your race weekend or put the car on a flatbed to the shop. If you've seen the carnage left in a torque tube after a guibo failure you understand the headache of getting it cleaned out and back in working order again.

Our Carbon Fiber Driveshaft system is not only 52% lighter than the stock driveshaft and guibo combination, but it is significantly stronger than the OEM parts. All of our Carbon Fiber driveshafts ship with hardened 12mm hardware which is compatible with all 2001+ Corvettes. During our durability testing our Carbon Fiber driveshaft survived 500,000 continuous cycles of 1350 ft/lbs, and ultimately failed at the 4500 ft/lbs. Needless to say our driveshaft will handle anything that your Corvette power plant can throw at it!

In our Carbon Fiber Driveshaft system we have replaced the rubber guibos with specially designed Flex Disks that allow for angular deflection just like the guibos do, but without the potential for failure over time. The reason we don't use a large single piece machined guibo replacement is that an aluminum guibo replacement is solid and won't allow for the slight misalignment that is present between engine and transmission. By designing a unique flex disk to account for misalignment our system keeps stresses on the driveshaft and bearings low, but provides the superior rotational stiffness that the stock guibos cannot.

Our Carbon Fiber Driveshaft has several advantages over stock:
  • Lighter
  • Significantly Stronger
  • Fewer points of failure
  • Fitment available for all 2001+ C5 and C6 Corvettes

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to call us at 1-888-972-2464 or send us an email to info@pfadtracing.com.
