Default Tire age question

How old is too old?

I have a couple of R6's that have a 3006 date code. Are these safe to run? They have some heat cycles. Just curious about safety for HPDE.

Thanks.

From a safety point of view, I don't think you need to worry about them delaminating or a sudden failure but from a performance point of view, they are going to be garbage. 5 year old racing rubber; the durometer reading is going to closer to wood than a tire.

Depends on the DE & how you drive it. I wouldn't take it on a Roval with speeds up to 150, if you want to do parade type laps on a lower speed DE just be careful, lack of grip can be as bad as a blowout.

With that date code, I would be worried that they may not be done with the curing process.

Run them to they cord, or you slide off the track.

Dont expect too much grip, if any at all. and forget cold track conditions

So Personal best times are not going to happen.

I tapped a wall at Barber with some "NOS" S04 Hoosiers. Be careful and patient. I ran some 2008 unused A6s lately - noticeable loss of grip.

My plan is to pair them with some cycled out A6's in the rear - to cord the rears and practice car control.

Decent idea?

I knew they wouldn't be fast or a whole lot of fun otherwise, just cautious about a blow out or delamination.
