Default Can't get my battery to stay locked down anymore.

No problem until last 6 mos. Tight when I leave home, but somewhere during track day it comes loose. It is like it is not big enough to fit in the well. I tighten lip down in front. I even put another washer in between bolt in case it was bottoming out. Battery is Autozone battery. Is there some kind of brace I can put it to keep it pushed up against locking bracket? Something else to do?

Piece(s) of wood fashioned into a proper spacer to keep it against the wedge thing. Not the only "wood" on the car.

I had Ed Hutchings fabricate me an aluminum battery tie-down bracket that works great. PM Ed for details.

That sounds a little more work, but maybe better. I presume there is a place to bolt it behind the batter. Will look into it tonite.

Thanks.

That is kind of what I had in mind, except running it the other way and using the tie down hole from front and making another behind battery. I have some thin sheet metal that would probably work for that. I wouldn't think it would need to be as thick as yours - pretty sure that's not coming loose.

If the car is subject to tech inspection, you need to be careful/avoid any METAL tie down that runs close to the terminals. I have so far been able to pass tech with wood "shims" so long as they would appear to be very secure in a wreck.

If an undersize battery shifts in a wreck & pos come in contact with an alum strap it's a dead short.

MAYBE if you really wrapped the alum strap with rubber tape you'd be ok, but a wreck could cause tape to be pierced.

I think of the gas tank as a quantity of high explosive that I carry around (@ 150 mph) and the battery as the igniter. Both need careful thought when you modify them.

YMMV

Definitely not safe as is. Took a look at it tonite. May just go around battery. It would only require drilling one hole, using existing mounting stud and it would split the center of battery - away from terminals. New weekend project.
