Default Exhaust Wrap On a Race Car?

I have been thinking about wrapping my exhaust for a while now to keep the temps in the car down. During the summer its almost unbearable even with a cool suite.

I race a C4 wich is notorious for heat. But I was wondering, with the amount of heat generated from racing, is it still ok to wrap the exhaust? Or could that cause some trouble?

I recently wrapped my exhaust on my racecar. Start reading on Page 8 for the discussion it triggered.

What are you running for a muffler?
I think with the stainless or alunized mufflers you should be OK. Its those guys with the ti mufflers that need to worry

Ceramic coatings help. We did headers and exhaust to the mufflers.

I'm sold on the ceramic coatings. We build electrical enclosures for industry and use a white reflective exterior paint [ high ceramic contents] and it works pretty darned well. Noticeably better than just plain old white rustoleum like paints

We coated our tunnel and firewall with it.

Now if we could stop breaking things I could say I know it works on cars? Pretty sure it will.

What kind of paint are you talking about? Where can I get some?

The best solution is ceramic coating & properly wrapping piping with no moisture left in them.

Get the wrap wet when you install it... it will shrink when it dries out creating a tighter seal on the exhaust.

If you wrap the headers, watch out for oil getting on the wrap. It can catch fire from the heat. I've seen this happen to a couple of cars at some autocrosses.
