Default Cost of changing race tires?

What's everybody to dismount, remount and balance race tires? I've been paying $30/wheel and that seems a little high but it is a lot of work, 30 minutes or so per wheel.

There's not many shops in Richmond, VA that can do even the OEM C6Z wheels, let alone the new CCWs that I just got.

I recently had our local Discount Tire store mount 4 Dunlop slicks on my 12X18" race wheels. Mount and balance were $40, or $10 per wheel.

I always use the same tech at the tire ship around the corner. A $20.00 bill and a 6-pack gets the job done. Of course I don't get a receipt.

I charge $50 per car, mounted and balanced. That's with a Hunter soft-touch mounting machine. It has rubber pads that hold the wheel, nylon bead breaker wheels, and a plastic foot. No scratches.

The key is to always go to the same place. After you use them several times, then start working in the "what can you do for me" comments. And make sure to send ALL of your friends there. When they do go there, they need to tell the store that "so and so with the Vette sent me and said you would take care of me".

I have been using the same place for five years. The manager has changed three times. But as each one leaves, they tell the next guy to "Take car of the guy with the red Vette."

I thought I was getting a smoking hot deal at $28.50 for 2 tires mount, balance (tape weights), tax, and discard at NTB. Clearly there are better deals to be had out there. I'm running scrub Hoosier R6 so I'm wondering if I can save even more by no weights. I would hate to try it and have it ruin a track weekend because I wanted to save $10?

The local manager has changed 3 times but they all know my name and every car I drive!

Best I've found is $13 each mounted/balanced and that's with them giving me a discount. Been going there two years now and it's 2 minutes from work.

I hate to spoil your day but I don't pay anything. My buddies at Discount Tire do mine for free 99% of the time. On the rare occasion when I am charged I pay $10 per wheel. Frankly, I almost feel guilty coming-in as often as I do because they don't charge me. I do, however, generally tip whoever actually does the work and every so often I take the guys out to lunch. The flip side is I'm a loyal DT customer and with 5 vehicles and a couple trailers I give them a lot of 'normal' tire business. More than just mounting my track tires DT has done a lot of 'good things' for me over the years. Besides locally I've used DT branches in other cities and they've always done good work for me. Discount Tire is aces in my book!

I've only used him twice but I've got the local guy down to $70 for all 4.
I hope to get him down to the $50 for all four eventually, he is darn convienient.

The other place I used was $100 for all four. Didn't matter if he was just taking them off or taking them off and putting new ones on

Discount Tire in Tallahasse wants twice as much as anybody else in town. They quoted me something like $80 last time I called.

If your Walmart has a tire and lube check them out for cheap. That is where I had my last two sets mounted w/o balance was $6.50 each. Mind you my track wheels are already scratched and I don't care if they get a few more but the guys at our Walmart have been just as conscientious as anybody else so far.

Damn timely topic. I need to find a discount tire because everyplace I've been going wants $30/tire which offends me. Off to hunt down a shop on tires.com.
