Default If you need a C5 fuel filter buy the Wix from Amazon.com

Amazon.com has the best prices by far... better than any vendors or rockauto.com etc. The OEM Delco filter is only $55 + free shipping. Here's the thing. Wix maxes the OEM filter for Delco... so buy the $37 wix filter and don't bother.

Not wanting to take a chance I paid the $55 for the Delco and 2 day shipping to get it here today in time in install for VIR this weekend. Opened the Delco box and there was a Wix filter with the "Wix" scratched out with a marker.

I compared it to an old OEM filter I had laying around and it's the exact same unit. Same stampings, same QC check marks etc. etc. Only difference is the OEM part has the OEM pn printed on it whereas the Wix says WIX and their pn.

Amazon.com was kind enough to refund me the difference in price no questions asked. They also refunded me the shipping costs which I didn't ask for. I was prepared for an argument since the Delco Ad copy states:
Note: ACDelco partners with other manufacturers to supply the parts your car was originally built with. This product is in a ACDelco package, however the part may have been manufactured by an independent ACDelco supplier."
However, on the same add it sates the manufacturer is ACDelco and only shows the MFG and OEM part numbers; no mention of Wix or the wix PN.

Don't you have to drop the tank to change this, or is that only on the 2004 where they were "testing out" the c6 fuel system?

Just curious.

Late production 2003s and 2004s got the C6 fuel system pulled forward. They have a non-serviceable in-tank filter setup.

I'm not sure there is an "improvement" there. I'd like to be able to service the filter.

That and the hard cross-over pipe and connectors can make the fuel tank crack. There was a TSB out for it for late 2003s and 2004s. There's a huge thread in C5 gen about it because GM never did a safety recall on it. Lots of people contacting various government regulations asking for an investigation etc. The 2003 convertible I used to have had the updated fuel system, but I never had any issues with it.

$32.79 on Rock Auto less the 5% discount code they always have floating around, but then you have to pay for shipping vs. Amazon's free shipping.

I'm buying a lot of car stuff on Amazon. I also found out that Summit will match any Amazon price. Just call their 800 number and give them the Amazon url.
