New Nasa STR2 Car
I found this in GRM last night. http://www.999motorsports.com/ GRM said STR2 legal. 950KG = 2090lbs. Relatively cheap 65k. 225-300hp.
I'm pretty sure those engines could also be pushed to STR1 levels. Pretty cool. Light weight pays off if lbs/hp is the same. Braking & cornering don't care about HP.

Why reinvent the wheel? I don't see the appeal honestly. Plus one of the guys who was responsible for and ran out on Redline Time Attack prematurely with many teams having paid for a whole season, jumped ship for this project (rather than finishing what he started).
I'd ask around members of the Redline Time Attack about the people running this program.

I think it looks like a cool and good idea on paper and someone is going to make some good money marketing them to track people. A field of those at a national race would be quite the sight and probably close racing. That wheelbase from the side view looks pretty funny...kind of like an Elisa that got chopped in half and mated with a hatchback. That rear wing mount looks wicked too! Would be cool to see how they compare to an equal hp:weight nasa car.

I'm pretty sure they were trying to setup a class for these, but probably couldn't sell enough (kind of like Spec Atom, except those are half as much). I guess now they are marketing them as STR2.
They would take a penalty for low weight - about 0.5, plus 0.2 for sequential, and if they run slicks that's another 0.75, minus -.4 for narrow slicks. So total would need to be at 9.75 - that will be tough. It would need to handle so much better than everything else to make up for lack of power on anything resembling a straight.

999 occasionally mentions in their email blasts how many they have sold. Last I remember it was <20 and that was worldwide. I think they have been for sale for 5? months.
