Default LS3 RPMs

Has anyone tuned an LS3 to > 6500 RPMs? (Or have knowledge that it can be safely done)

Yes, Chuck Cow.

He can tune the rev limiter for a soft or hard limit and raise the RPM.

Valve train safety in the long run is the question?

I consider all 01'-up engines safe to 6900rpm, at least from a reciprocation point of view. I can't attest to all of the oiling issues, but the rod improvement really helped the safe rpm range of the engines.

I talked to a GM rep at the PRI show and he told me the durability testing on the LS3 was done at 6700 rpms. His quote was "It can run there all day long"

All LS2 and LS3 cars I've ever tuned pretty much have a rev limiter of 7,100.

Now, that's not to say that they can hang there all day or you should do it every day,

but it's only 500 rpms over stock and no big deal...

When a customer comes in for a tune and he's 21 years old... I sometimes

give him something closer to stock. Same with forced induction cars.

It's not something you should sweat if you're responsible.
