Default The latest project: Road Race late model stock car

It could have been done by now, but we decided to cut the front clip off the Port City Nascar Autozone Series car and put on the newest HOWE Trans Am 2 road race front clip. The 525 HP 23 degree small block chevy is ready to go in along with the Tex T101 tranny. Picked up some nice Penske shocks for her at a bargain. Brembo front calipers are on the way and new Wilwood Superlites for the rear.

The livery will be the 1966 Nascar Smokey Yunick Chevelle look.

A pic of the Howe TA2 front clip. This is a bargain at around 700 bucks retail. Nice geometry that works with affordable short track parts that bolt right on. Same thing that is on Trans Am 2 Champion Bob Stretch's cars.

What improvements did you get with the howe clip over the port city?

Even though the Port City chassis is called a Perimeter car it still has some trick offset built into it. Woody had reworked the front of the old port city clip to make it better for road racing, but it is still a bit of a compromise.

The Howe clip is totally squared up, more adjustable and built to be high anti dive.

The average driver might not notice the diff between the two, however a seasoned, talented amateur or pro would immediately.

Ah, I didn't know they did that with the port city chassis.
Are those dual motor mounts or are the rear ones for the rear of the block?

Have you decided what kind of front spindles you will put on it? All the used stock car stuff I've found still have a different angle from the left and right spindles. They seem to have a custom set for each track.

I slowed the project down a bit, due to the need to spend some money on the Corvette. (broken lifter which wiped the cam).

However, The motor is in the car, new springs and rear calipers are enroute. Deciding whether to use some newer Cup 4 piston Brembo's or older Cup 6 piston AP's for the front.

Spindles are by Sweet and are the same inclination. Upper A frames are new Joe's. Call Howe Racing for advice on spindles.

It was to be built to sell, however, my partner in the Corvette likes the car and has offered to buy 1/2 of it. I am gonna think it over. Quite sure it will be an effective road racer.

About 9 months behind schedule, due to having to spend money on motors. It is getting very close now.

Will go up for sale after we test it at Sebring in Feb/March.

Not a half *ss conversion, but ground up road race build

More pics soon

Will be available early around March

Selling so I can complete my new Howe Mustang build

This will be a very competitive SCCA GTA/SPO or Nasa SU at 525 HP at 2500# w/o driver

* Trans Am2 front clip
* Large 4 piston Nascar Brembo billet calipers in front with 12.91 Performance friction rotors
* new Wilwood Superlite 4 calipers in rear
* Penske shocks set up for road racing
* Tex T101 (fresh) road race tranny with LONG shifter by DEI tran guy
* quartermaster 3 disc clutch with QM reverse mount starter
* new driveshaft
* rebuilt Winters quick change
* KIRKEY road race seat with containment top
* autometer guages
* SAFECRAFT 10# automatic fire system on fuel cell

I may consider street car or truck trades
