Default Removing heat transfer lettering on race suit

A friend gave me his Protech racing suit (2 years old) and it has his name and blood type on it using what appears to be some type of heat-transfer lettering. I need to remove the letters and replace with my name and blood type.

Any idea how to remove the old letters without harming the suit??

I could probably do that but I would still like to have my name and blood type on the front. I tried to scrape the old letters off using my thumbnail but that didn't really work. Maybe I can get a patch made??
