Default A friend of mine...

has a '69 427 Vette. He just had the engine rebuilt. After installing and driving he noticed a big drop in oil pressure.

When the oil is cold, the pressure is fine, but when he takes off and it warms up, it drops to dangerous levels.

He's changed oil and filter.

He'll replace the oil pump this weekend, any other ideas?

If it has a electric gauge maybe the sending unit is faulty(from R&R). Check pressures with a mechanical gauge to confirm.

Depending on the usage the engine builder probably gave it extra bearing clearance. Not the end of the world. Pull the pan and put in a high volume pump. It's a bit of a pain, but nothing worth fighting over. If you are wanting to verify everything is ok, cut the oil filter open and look for debris between the pleats of the filter. You should expect to see lint from towels and some small metallic particles, but not large flakes (especially copper flakes from bearings).
