Default Stock calipers changing color. Normal?

I just wanted to confirm that my stock calipers losing their red look was normal. I even tried rubbing compound on them today and it did nothing. It looks like they have just gotten so hot that the paint just came off. lol

My setup is XP12/XP10, DBA4000 F, Doug Rippie brake duct kit, Nitto NT555 RII's. Advanced level.

Please confirm that turning black is normal.

Thanks.

Yep, the heat discolors calipers...check mine out. The top ones started as Machine Silver.

Thanks guys! I just wanted to double check rather than have a brake issue on track.

They will eventually turn a crappy looking light brown as the heat continues to deteriorate the paint. Looks like rotors are going to be on your replace list shortly based on the heat checking in the image.

Brembos are nicknamed Brownbos because they are notorious for doing that.

Indeed. They are getting changed before the next event along with new front pads. Rotors lasted 6 events + 3500 street miles. DBA4000

How many events out of the XP12/10 pads using the stock calipers?

I got 3 out of XP12's and 3 out of the RP2's.

I got 5 out of the XP10's.

Now, the 3 out of the XP12's were more than the RP2's because I did more sessions those 3 days. I also street drove the XP12's a lot longer than the RP2's. The RP2's were more rotor aggressive and didn't last as long.

I'm going back to the 12's. They squeal like a SOB on the street though.

Bare in mind, I mostly track at Sebring which is very hard on brakes.

I get 5+ events on a hard-on-the-brakes track w/the wil H pads but my rotor life w/Centrics is like 2 events. I'll see how the DBA's do but I'm not optimistic so far.

How is the initial bite on the XP12? I like not too much bite since it will just trigger ABS even more agressively. I like an easy-to-modulate characteristic.

Brief description of the XP12.

Another highly successful XP™ series compound with an excellent initial bite, torque and fade resistance over and above the XP10™ compound. XP12™ has temperature range of 250°F to 2000°F+ (121°C to 1093°C+). The XP12™ has that excellent Carbotech release and modulation that has made all other Carbotech compounds so successful. The XP12™ is more rotor aggressive than XP10™, but compared to the competition the XP12™ is still very rotor friendly. XP12™ is NOT recommended for use as a daily driven street pad due to possible elevated levels of dust and noise.

I had a set of powder coated Wilwoods on my C5 and compared to regular paint, I noticed if maintained the powder coat finish holds up WAY better.
