Default A&A Corvette autocross video. 5/27/2012.

At the last minute, I decided to go to Camarillo Airport Sunday for an autocross. It's not really a race, just a practice day. I think I was 3rd overall out of 50 cars. I wanted to practice more car control, so I went as cheap and easy as possible. No race tires, wing, or splitter. Just some old street tires. It's a real handful for sure, and would probably never do that again. We got permission to re-do the entire track from Saturday's layout. It was actually pretty fun. Bonus video at the end. Talk about embarrassing.

Holy crap that course looks fun! I wish there was some large areas like that around here! All I get are tight **** courses designed for Miatas.
Id love to open it up like that!

I ran my A&A for the 1st time on Sunday too. Way too much power for autocross. Doesn't help that it's in 1st gear either.

Good video.

I hate to admit it, but things can be learned on street tires. We should all do one or two events a year on street tires.

Great videos! I will do the same thing when my car gets back together. Running on street tires can be fun and frustrating all at the same time.

Most of my practice days & BMW events are run on worn out DOT R or even street tires.

IMO it teaches you car control skills & also how well set up the car is (escecially how neutral).

I hate to tell you, but that was the smallest course I've ever been on. Most of the autocross events I attend, our 10 times bigger. Top of second gear and sometimes into 3rd.

That might be true. When I co-drive my friends Super Stock 04 Z06 with street tires it's not bad. Kumho XS. My tires were just plain scary. Plus my cars setup is for a wing, splitter and race tires. That didn't help. But I know what you mean.

Thanks,
I've done this before and I usually wish I brought race tires at the end of the day.

I am probably going to set up the next course, I run out there about a dozen times a year for work plus my friend rents it from time to time. Here is a video of one of the last courses I set up there for a test and tune:

I was thinking something along these lines for next time:

The course those Corvair guys set up makes me want to punch babies.

Steve, that's the first time I've seen you go off!

I spun once and went off into the bushes once at the April El Toro event and I ingested about as much dust/dirt as you had flying inside there.

Was looking to do 06/30 practice, but my car broke timing chain on Memorial weekend and been out of commission since!
It's getting repaired now, with an upgrade at RPM Motors.
So next time my target will be a +7 sec handicap to your times, since even more power for me = +2 sec slower than me with stock power

Or, I'll try the July practice in a 200hp Subaru BRZ, since I finally wised up and got me a 2nd car. Auto-x always seem to strain my 131,000+ mile C6 to the next weakest link...
Don't kick me out if I still want to park around all the Corvettes, lol.

Once a Corvette owner, always a friend.

Hope to see you soon. That BRZ should be fun to drive.
