Default Corvette C5 track DAY - R888 - what pressure?

I just fitted my new R888 : Front 245/40/17 ; rear 275/35/18.

I have a track day next week.

What would be your advice on tire pressures please ?

Thanks.

I run 275/315 on mine. I usually start out at 32 all around and bleed down to 40 after the first hard session.

Default R888's

I think you will find these tires like more pressure to be most effective.

We ended up approx.36-38 psi cold - 44 to 46 hot for best results on both a technical 2.2 mi course and a sweeper 2.3 mi course. Use tire temps etc. to validate as aggressiveness and car setup will affect results.

I'm right in the middle of these guys with 275/305s at 34 cold and 42 to 44 hot.

Wow... 40 seems quiet high to me. I destroyed my PS2 with such a pressure (the center of the tire was "carved", sorry for the translation".

So the R888 would handle pressure much better than the Michelin PS2, then?

If you run the 888s below 40 hot they carve out the centers. Yea, I know, that sounds backwards but that's what happens.

Toyo web site says to run lower hot pressures than that. I tired following the recommendations of people on the forum and run them higher but I had to drop down to 28 cold to get them into the 37 hot region where they ran well.

I copied this from their web page:
Toyo Tires recommends the following general set up guidelines for the Proxes R888:
  • Operating Temperature: 160°F to 220°F
  • Hot Inflation Pressures: 32 to 38 (psi)
  • Camber: -1° to -3°
  • Caster: As much positive as possible
I have -3 camber in the front and -1.7 in the rear.

Bill
