Default HPDE tire advice, non slick, best bang for the buck

Hey Guys kinda looking for some advice for a non slick tire......
Heres what I have: 07 Z06 about 590RWHP, I am going to Pfadt coilovers (used, need help with a starting setup, will be corner balanced) and heavy rate sways. Car is lowered about 1-1.5 inches about -2deg camber, has splitter which will be tweaked for more front downforce, drive about 3-5days a week on Stock wheels with nitto NT05s and want to HPDE on something a bit better.
The stipulations: I would like to have a back up set of CHEAP wheels and tires. I am thinking about putting C5 z06 rears (18s are cheaper) all the way around my C6 for HPDE events, 315/30/18s up front and 335/30/18s on the rear. Any experience? I would like some more time with the BEST street tire before moving to slicks I like the squeal of a street tire and want the warning rather than grip and then none. I need more front grip but I think I am at the limit of the NT05s.
I dont mind the thing having poor wet performance, right now I turn into a 95 yr old grandma when it rains hard. I think I should be able to stretch the life of them a bit since they would be a back up set of wheels and tires. I was looking at the toyo proxes right now....would this match what I am trying to accomplish? any others? The PS2s are nice but I thought they were a little more than I wanted to spend....However if they are the best bang for the dollar i may go that route. Thank you for reading

there's no cheap tires that come in that size. if you want to put c5z rears all around try looking for R888 or similar scrubs. 305/35. I dont think you'll fit a 335 on a stock c5z rear. It wont fit that well anyway.

Nitto's RII are a very good tire. Has a good life span and good stick with some feed back. tread wear 100

Nitto's NT05 biggest 18 is a 295 it is considered a street tire. Good tire I have some friends who use them and they said good things about them. thread wear is 200.

I actually did what you are doing for a while. I got 4 18x10.5 C5Z wheels and run the R888 scrubs for 2 sets($400/set). But after 3-4 days, the R888s were too slick to run. I fell into a deal for some scrub R80 slicks. The first set I got 30 heat cycles before I noticed a drop off in grip. I broke out another set to run on the front, and am still rotating the first set of 4 on the rears. Those now have 37+ heat cycles and still going. I am only doing HPDEs in the advanced group, but they have turned out to be a $$ saver for tires. I wasn't really ready for slicks, but too good a deal to turn down. There are a couple of threads with people selling scrub slicks for good deals if you go that route. Here is a quick vid at VIR on them. As you can see, I still drive them like street tires but get the benefit of the increased braking. HTH.

Pilot SS and Trofeos are great, but you need a 19" rear to get the section with you'll want back there.

IMO, go out with an instructor and some Hoosiers and never look back.

One big thing I forgot to mention was I do not have a trailer nor do I intend on getting one or sticking tires on the car. I need to drive to and from track with the stickiest tires available. I typically have other tools etc and the wife in there......
Thank you

I just made the swap to Hoosiers last weekend... Addicting like crack! They don't talk well but you can feel the start slipping. I'm not sure I will ever go back now...

Yeah, when I made the switch a couple months ago, I shaved 4 seconds off my lap time on a 1.7 mile course. Once you know how street tires feel when they are about to give, you'll be fine on slicks and you will NEVER go back unless it's raining.

NT01 would be my recommendations.

If you need more front end grip, consider giving up some rear grip for better balance.

Never ran them myself but the Toyo R888 is the lowest price option at Tire Rack.

NT01 or RA1. Having to drive to and from the track is a pain. Trailer or tire trailer is in your future. I don't know if I'd drive much less than tread wear 100 on the street at all.

If you have any significant distance, then I agree completely. I only live 3 miles from my local track and had no issues with the Hoosiers to and from. I certainly wouldn't drive to Sebring on them though...

After many sets of R6's, Khumo 710's, a set or two of A6's, R888's, Wide Ovals (great on the street), I keep coming back to NT01's for HPDE. They last longer, are consistent and I only give up a second or two. But, after all, it is simply HPDE.

I think I would vote for the R888's. 2 HPDE's, about 100 autocross runs and 5000 miles and I still think I will get through this year with them. Just got back from a show that fetured drag racing and a autocross, 1200 mile round trip on R888's.

Agree these are a good compromise but depends on how far you're driving and if there is any chance of significant precip. These tires have limited tread and don't like any degree of standing water, plus if you drive hard at the track these will be virtual slicks after a couple of events.

Actually R888's are not that bad in the rain. I have even run a couple of autocrosses with them. FYI I have a 200 mile round trip for my autocrosses and this year they have all been wet.

What is a pain about it? I do it all the time.

In fact, I made a write-up on it.

The only thing I don't like about it is driving them in the rain. Anything over 50 gets a little hairy and when they get low tread it gets real hairy.

When they were brand new I drove all the way from Ocala FL to Braselton (Road Atlanta) and back before including the two day event no issues. That was around 1000 miles round trip + the event. I did 4 Sebring days after that too. They wear great.
