Default Winter Project is Finally Done! *Updated w/ Many Pictures*

As the saying goes, better late than never. Work has been getting in the way so I haven't had as much time to work on the car as I would like but you gotta pay the bills.
Anyway, all the weight redistribution is done and it seems to have payed off. I will be on track next weekend so I'll find out if it made any difference in the way the car feels and handles.

Yeah.... you in the car? If not I'm not impressed as my car is lighter than that I don't have full aero, but I do have glass in the car, cool-shirt cooler, etc.

I think you guys missed the point. It wasn't about the weight loss as I will have to add ballast anyway. It's about the near perfect 50/50 front to rear and left to right.

Ahhh... now all the pics show. Impressive work. Why switch to a LS3 water pump with the outlet more over the the driver's side if you were going to a double-pass radiator like that? More pics of the air intake too... nice idea using the OEM bridge to snake over the frame rail. You do nice work OCD approved.

Added a couple more pictures.
Nothing special. Just an Amsoil dry synthetic filter.

how about more pictures in general of that engine bay! That rad setup looks AMAZING!!!! What radiator is that? and how did you get it THAT far forward!!!

I love what you did with the ABS, I bet it makes working on the car a little easier with that out of the way.

edit:
wait, how did you get away with removing the rad overflow tank?

Crazy catch-can set-up too. Looks like the big tank has the lines on the passenger side valve cover routed to it and then the outlet from the big tank runs up the fenderwell panel to a vented can in the headlight area?

Thanks for the compliments.

It's a Griffin off the shelf cross flow radiator. It is smaller than the Ron Davis I pulled out.
It weighs about 4 lbs less dry and holds about 1 gallon less water.
This one is 27.5" x 15.5"
I also have a smaller one which I will probably switch to later in the year.
I just started with the larger one because I wasn't sure how it would do for cooling. I only trust my calculations so far and then you have to do testing.
My water temps never made it past 190 on a 95 degree day and they were around 170 on track.

If you look at the 6th picture down you will see it next to my "catch can"
The silver tank mounted on the fender. The black container is my "catch can"

Looks cool!! Where did you get those coolant tubes? Are they just aluminum tubing, or do they have a flanged end to keep the hose on? What wall thickness did you use? I am in the process of laying the radiator down in my C4 and have to get tubes as well.

It's just standard .035" wall 1 1/4" and 1 1/2" aluminum tubing.
I have a tubing bead roller. Straight tubing doesn't work so well when you put some pressure behind the water. A guy I know tried it and was always fighting small leaks.
My system is pressure tested to 45psi and I have a 28psi cap.

Last edited by geerookie; 07-09-2012 at 01:30 PM. Reason: wrong tubing size

Also, how did you relocate the alternator way down there? and is it a PITA to remove/replace?

Sounds like to me everyone wants more pictures and every detail you did. I do too.

Very nice.

The fact that the output was closer to the drivers side SUCKED!
The pump is more efficient, flows more and weighs less than the LS1/LS6 pump. If I remember correctly it was almost 4 lbs less and my goal was to remove as much weight from the nose of the car as possible.
(Within my budget)

Thanks! I still wish my interior looked like yours.
I guess I'll just have to console myself with the fact that my car is faster than yours...

Of course I will have to come to VIR or RA to settle that as a true fact not just me unloading a bunch of

More details on this later. I have some other things (work/job) I need to do this afternoon.
