Default Help with a C5R light weight hood

Before I go off and get this hood painted, I want to know what purpose the front tear drop scoop is used for? I have one on each side.

If I don't need it, then I will glass it in. I'm sure the real C5R used it to provide cooling to something under the hood but I don't know what
I can't imagine that it's to allow air into the engine bay
Also should mention that it is right where I need to install the front latch pins. Well just off center a bit.

What do you guys think?

TIA

Who makes that hood? Is that the waxer C5 west hood? Comes with little add-on thingies for the fenders to "complete" the fender vent look?

It is there to allow air in. Where its supposed to go, I don't know.

Who made the hood?

Don't know who made the hood; bought it off of craigslist; however, it's brand new and we took it right out the wooden crate, unwrappped it and loaded it into my pickup. Very lightweight and will need to pinned in all four corners.

I have seen pictures of a C5R and the hood has the same front scoops so I'm hoping someone can tell me their function.

nice. I dont know the answer but there are a ton of pics of c5r's in various states of undress. I just tried cr5, c5r hood, c5r naca ducts. Keep searching, you may find a pic that helps answer your question.

It's a C5 West hood It's supposed to have little add-on thingies that stick on the fenders to complete the vents.

On a C5R the NACA ducts feed the twin restricter kinsler
Intake. With a stock style intake it would be hard to use those.

Were those inlets used to feed the engine intakes? Take a look at the picture here:

http://www.netcarshow.com/chevrolet/...llpaper_09.htm

It appears they feed the orange tubing which is connected to the restrictors, then on to the intake manifold. Although from a model, this link has some interesting pictures:

I thought that the hood was by these guys:

No those are heat extractors for the wheel well. Yep you would have to cut or at the very least drill holes to allow heat to be extracted thru the vents. Not planning on doing that for now.

Turns out I don't need them because I'm not running a C5R intake.

Default Closure on C5R hood

Thank you everyone for your comments and clarification. I now know what those front vents are used for and as a result, I can remove them with confidence.
The other thing I would like to mention is....yes it looks identical to the C5West hood but with one difference, mine weighs 13lbs and will need to be pinned.

I don't see any vents or "holes" in that picture of the underside of the hood. Are there vents, or do you need to cut them?

Yes all of the vent slots are open. The photo position does hide it though
