LOL, they give the most extreme examples yet none of them even compare to sports car racing OK Yachting is a little out there

I stopped playing golf years ago because I'd rather be on the track driving. I used to complain about how expensive all the new latest and greatest Drivers/Putters were. Heck, I can buy a new set of clubs every time I play now and it would be still be significantly cheaper than maintaining and racing the cars.

I'd say downhill skiing has some excitement to it. Nowhere near as fun as tracking a Corvette (and alot colder) but you go fast, you have to pick your lines through the moguls and if you go off course and into the trees you are in big trouble.
In my 20s I used to ski alot in Upstate NY and VT. Conditions were mostly ice. So imagine you are at the top of a mountain with a steep grade and the surface is a sheet of ice, lol.

they had snowboarding and hunting on there!
When you spend as much or more on a single consumable (ie 1 set of tires) as someone spends on all of their equipment how is that not comparable?

Skiing, Gear will run you over $1000 for a full setup. Needs to be replace every few years or so. Lift tickets, $60 minimum, season pass if you really like one area for $600. Of course you need a vehicle to get up the mountain, gas, food and of course lodging cost if you are staying for more than a day.
Hunting, depends how much you are into it. Easy to have 10-15K in guns if you like to do it all. Since most people can't hunt in there back yards you need the right vehicle, lodging etc.
I'll tell you what is expensive, do it all. Why can't I have just one hobby. Don't even get me started on wood working.
