Default I need some more headroom

I'm needing a bit more headroom in the C5 coupe with helmet on.
How much additional can be gained by removing the headliner and padding near the hoop ?

Have you tried a race seat mounted with Hardbar rails? Gets your butt on the floor.

Headliner removal--1+inch and custom seat mount on floor will definitely add more head room. I am 6'2" and needed extra room.

I have a custom mount for the Evo that puts my butt pretty much on the floor already - but can still use a bit more. if there is 1+ inch in the headliner area..thats probably where Ill look next. Thanks guys !

One full inch would be just about right !
Not thrilled about performing the surgery on the liner / ceiling padding needed to get this Xtra clearance on my street / track car - but I really need it.

The problem area is limited to the overhead hoop area where the ceiling / underside of the cabin roof drops down that inch or so. Has anyone removed the padding in this limited area to get more helmet clearance ? how difficult can it be ?

I went and dug out my roof liner so you can see the underside. Its not that removing the padding is hard but that area is hard formed in that shape. You could cut out that entire area I suppose so you would be left with 1/2 a roof liner. Anyway, heres a pic.

that photo is a big help. Thanks for posting. Looks like it would be easiest to simply remove the entire liner intact..rather than cut it up. Might even be able to re-install later that way.
