Hey guys,

Happy New Year!

Just wanted to see if anyone here is interested in test driving the AiM Solo in 2013. Basically you would reserve a weekend window to use the AiM Solo. I will ship it to you for you to use on the weekend. When you are done, simply ship it back using the enclosed label.

All you will have to pay for is the shipping fee (round trip ~$25).

Info on the AiM Solo here: http://m-world.us/aim_solo_dl_gps_la...ta_logger.html

Let me know your thoughts.

Will this work with any Apple products? It seems that most are only useful with PC/Windows systems. We need on that can be downloaded to an OS based system.

Yes. Some of my customers use Windows Virtualiztion on Macs to run AiM programs. Here's some info from Apple.

I'll be at the track several times in the next two months. Shoot me a PM if you are still looking for a test dummy.

The AIM guys themselves use Macs. You'll likely never find professional level data software native on a Mac. Just run bootcamp or vmware etc. Owning a Mac is not a barrier at all.

-Exclusively a Mac guy since 2002 and AIM/Motec data user. Won't ever turn a lap without my SOLO.

Richard,

What a great program! A bunch of us in Socal bought solos and DL's to run in our racecars. Hope you can help put pressure on AIM. Why can my cheap OBD2 readers and Android phone with wifi OBD2 reader read my C5 ECU and SoloDL cannot?
2008 the obd protocol changed to the current standard SOLO DL reads. That means C6 corvette. But will the DL read the OBD2 data of ALL C6 vettes? If the answer is no can a 2008 ECU be swapped into a 2005 C6 and the solo DL work?

My understanding is that the prior standard OBD2 protocol doesn't refresh/transmit at a fast enough rate to make the car data meaningful when overlaid with GPS/accel/track data. It's not that the DL can't see the data, it's that at the speed it travels it's not accurate enough to make it useful in analysis. No need to write the communication protocol. Junk data is worse than no data.

Last week, I submitted the request to AiM to add J1850 protocol which the C5 uses. I will keep you posted.

Regarding C6: 2004 is when GM started transitioning from J1850 to CAN. This process did not finish until 2008, when 100% of its cars became CAN. Therefore, I suspect that some of the earlier C6 may still use J1850.

Here's how to check based on pins on your OBDII port:

If you have pins 2, 4, 5, 16, you have J1850.

If you have pins 4, 5, 6, 14, 16, you have CAN

My understanding is that a 2006 OBDII unit or later is required due to data transfer rate.
This is the same for all of the direct OBDII connections by other data acquisition companies that I am aware of. I am positive for Racepak and in talking to Tim Anderson from Racepak, which is now MSD owned, there is no interest in going into older products (i.e. 2005 or earlier) to try to make this work. You need to adapt individual sensors. Also, in most cases oil pressure will not record to Data Recorders in 2006 Corvette or later with direct OBDII cable due to that function is apparently GM exclusive and requires a licensing fee.

Richard,

My current data recorder is not working, so I will need to replace it. I have another event coming up in six days. Do you have the Solo in stock? Can you get it to S.C. Around Wednesday of this week?

Thanks, I have been following your threads since my times over on the BMW forums.
