New Kart track in the Mooresville area...
A couple of NASCAR guys built a new Go-Kart track in the area. It's just down the road from the wind tunnels.
I wasn't doing anything Friday so I rode over by there and it is impressive. Just the parking area for spectators and the paddock is enormous.
The track has elevations changes and is 7/10 long. Really a 1st class facility. I notice Max Pappas already has his garage.
Here's a link to their site: Mooresville Motorplex
Here's a couple of pictures I got with my Brownie Instamatic

It would be a hoot to do an autocross on that track. The pavement looks wider than the tracks we use in our area which are about 15 ft wide.

Those karts are the ones available for the public to rent and race. I think they said they were 13 hp karts.
When you show up they assemble enough participants to have a race. Then when more people show up, they do the same thing, all over again.
When they have have a "private" race, you bring your own kart, and from what I understand there are shifter kart races with those guys sometimes. They'd be crazy to allow a shifter kart out there with a bunch of rookie's in rent-a-karts.

My buddy Terry's Unlimited Kart
Scary - very scary
Custom built chassis
300cc. Rotax twin with 200+ HP
Total weight WITH driver 450lbs.
When I was road racing karts, this kart ran a 1:30 at Sears Point (before the repaving & changes). The T1 lap record in a Corvette is 1:49.

MMX is a blast. Before christmas a few of us went up and ran the rentals, and froze our butts off, but it was still fun. The rumble strips are full size, so with the small kart tires, they shake the heck out of you!!
Not uncommon to see big time drivers there, Colin Braun, Reed Sorenson, Scott Speed, Justin Algiaer, Kasey Kahne, Ryan Brisco...most live around here, so they have been stopping by in the off season. I know Brisco has a garage there too.
