Default Pic or link to the DRM suggestion for cutting fan shroud?

Hey guys,

Did some searching last night for the DRM suggestion to modify the fan shroud for maximum airflow. It seems the pics were no longer available. I'm interested to hear some data to support or refute modifying the stock fan shroud area to promote max airflow. I know that it can impact the effectiveness of the fans on the coolant system. My car is about 90% track now so I'm not too worried about that.

Anybody modify their fan shroud? What differences in coolant temps were realized by doing the mod? Anyone have a pic or link to the DRM template from a couple years ago?

Any thoughts or advice are welcomed.

If you send Randy@DRM a pm I am sure that he will email you the install instructions with the pictures. As far as data, I do not have any supporting the cutting vs. stock. FWIW I cut mine per the instructions when I installed my DRM/Ron Davis setup and even with 110 degree ambient Houston summer temps my coolant temp does not exceed 192 during a 30 minute session. Cammed LS6 ~400whp.

So I go the pic for a C5 fan shroud. Still looking for a pic on a C6 shroud. Anybody? If no, maybe I will take a stab at it myself sometime.

Just be careful how you cut it. If you do it the wrong way it may cut cooling capacity when the fan is running. Adding holes in the shroud can allow air to come in from behind the shroud instead of through the radiator. The 97 C5 shroud had openings with little rubber flaps over them. At high speed the flaps would open and allow air to bypass the fan. At low speeds they would close and maintain a lower pressure between the radiator and fan thus enhancing air flow through the radiator. Later C5 shrouds had plastic filling the places where the holes had been located. I saw this when I went from my 97 to an 03Z.

you will difinitely cut airflow when the fans are on...ie sitting in hot traffic. However most of us don't daily drive.

I've never done a C6, cut you want to open everything up as you can, without cutting out any structural ribs molded into the shroud. On a C5 you can use a holesaw, or more aggressively with a jigsaw.

As you can see the C6 already has a ton of air channels.

Thanks a million Randy!

Help me out a second... You can remove the shroud from the car without removing radiator, right? I've never done it this way as I've always pulled the two out together.

Very timely. Was about to ashcan the stock assembly while I had the radiator out and replace with an aftermarket piece. I'll definitely give this a try now. Thanks, Taken, for the question, and Randy for the info!!
