Default Underdrive pulley for a track only car?

I'm about to do some work on my LS1, including a complete LS6 top end and changing my crank pulley. Should I put an under drive pulley on there, and if so what brand? The car is track only, not street legal, no A/C.

Thanks,

I put an ATI (think that was it) SFI approved pulley on mine ... any good brand name should be better then the stock as my stock one had problems where the rubber damper inside had failed damaging my front main ... others may chime in to a brand preference but stick with any of the known names and ya should be good to go :-)

ATI or Stock

Those are your options if you don't want to break a timing chain. Stay away from any other balancer.

ok ATI Aluminum it is. Crank pin kit is on the way. 10% or 25%? As of right now stock Z06 clutch is going in but I might put a lightweight flywheel in.

What size belt will I need?

Thanks

Broken timing chains suck... especially when it's a C5R chain!!!

Took out my whole motor on the track.

This was with ASP UD pulley... please don't use this brand. ATI or stock will be all I ever use from now on!

Is this thing even worth the trouble? I can stick with stock, really not dying for the small increase it gives. For me reliability is king...

The stock balancers are good, but they can fail - the rubber between the hub and the outer shell will break loose. That tells you how much they are working - I've been told by some engine builders that these engines have some pretty destructive harmonics going on at peak torque.

The reason the ATI is really the only aftermarket option out there is because there are really three parts to the balancer. You have the hub then a layer of rubber, a ring then another layer of rubber and then the outer hub. You can think of it as having twice the harmonic dampening as a stock balancer.

I happen to think that the steel ATI balancer is the way to go because the extra weight does a better job of dampening the harmonics. I kinda thought the aluminum was more for drag racing. I would just call or e-mail ATI and give them your application and go with there recommendation.

note: I could see using the aluminum balancer if you are using one of those super light clutches, if you are using a stock style clutch I would stick with steel.

ATI recommends a 917279 10% UD Aluminum with -60 O-rings for track only applications. Now I forgot to ask them what size belt. Anyone know? No A/C.

ATI lists belt recommendations on the website. Use the P/N from ATIs website on the belt manufacturers website to determine length.

Nevermind. I see now that they seem to have left it out for certain model numbers. That's really odd.
