Default HANS hardware

The screws that screw into the helmet. What size and thread screws are they ?

My new helmet has the nut embedded in the helmet, but I need the proper screws.

I'm using an R3 device, so I am mounting D-rings.

My opinion as a professional machinist is 10-32 though I can't confirm it at the moment. I'll bet if you do a Google search you'll find it quick though.

I have a Rage R3 as well, and recently went through finding the d-rings for a new helmet I bought.

When looking around for new d-rings, I found out a couple things:
  • Simpson apparently bought Safety Solutions and is the distributor for all their stuff now

  • The quick release fittings for HANS and Rage tethers has changed to an entirely different attachment than the d-rings, and to upgrade to the new system would be very expensive (I have 2 helmets and would need the new helmet attachments as well as the new tether with the new fittings to hook onto the helmet fittings.

You can go to Simpson to get the whole setup - inside retaining nut, mounting screw, and d-ring:

I went to that auction site and found them for $5 less, but the shipping still makes the total price kinda ridiculous!!

Butt....this is what I went with:

I don't know what the specs on the screw are, but I just decided to get the official manufacturer's approved hardware.

I am using the old D-rings from my old helmet. The screws however, are too small to mount into my new helmet, which came with the inside retaining nut, preformed into the helmet.

I am guessing the new helmet is designed to mount the HANS hardware. Once I find the proper size, I will get grade 8 screws.

Very interesting that Simpson brought out safety solutions. I'm sure they got a nice retirement package.
