Default Please help me identify this hole in the back of the block

What goes into this threaded hole in the back corner of my LS2 block?

The valley cover doesn't cover it (it's notched to expose it) It's not a through hole, it seems to penetrate either the coolant passage or the oil passage. Shining a flashlight down inside didn't tell me anything. Do I plug it or does something screw in, like a sensor? I can't find anything in parts diagrams or the manual...

It's just an extra bolt hole for a valley cover, if you used an LS6 valley cover it would use that hole. They may have used it with a CTS-V or GTO application. I have both LS6 and LS2 engines here and the it's open on the LS2, used on the LS6.
You don't need all of those valley cover bolts anyway!

Weird. So do you stick a bolt in it to plug it or just leave it open?

Thanks, Joel.

Just leave it open. It's captured and not open to the cooling system or oiling system. You could put a bolt in there if it helps you feel better, but it's not needed.

I can leave the piece of tape on it that's covering it now. It's already in the car so getting a bolt in would be a PITA...

I'll just leave it as a fire hazard until the tape burns up or falls off.
