Questions about embedded rocks after HOT track day
I was invited by a buddy to VIR last Sat for some parade laps. I ran 2 sessions on the South course and had a blast the entire day. I'm currently running GY Gen2's and it was sunny and super hot (95+) therefore the tires turned into gum during both session and gathered every rock the could fine on and off the track. Now that I'm home and back to driving around town it sounds like I'm always on gravel.
My questions:
Should I have done something like brushed the rocks out of the rubber on Sat?
Is this a safety issue? i.e. a rock could puncture through a tire
Any recommendation for tire care on future track days?
FYI: My car is a 6-Speed Grand Sport.

Not sure what gen 2 tires are, but if they have grooves you probably have a few small rocks stuck, IIWM I'd pick them out. Could also be a small nut bolt or other track trash.
I would not drive on it very far.

They should start to work out of the tires as you drive. Zig zag back and forth at low speeds for a few miles and see if that hurries the process. You can always take the tires off and use your gloved hands to scrub them off.

...and find it in your truck, clothes, toolbox, and everything else you had with you for years to come. I swear that crap they use at VIR multiplies.

VIR is about as bad as it gets. Even if staying on "paved" part, it still covers hot tires with rocks. Best to make sure most of rocks is off before throttling coming out of T2. I carry one of these curry combs so I can at least check my tires between sessions. When I get home, I spend about 30 min cleaning rocks from tires.
Actually, I bought my tire scrapper (curry comb) from a racing vendor so it has the extended handle, which helps at the track, but doesn't work as good with tire removed. Also, right before my last session, I back my trailer up to paved part so ramps are on pavement, then drive onto trailer without getting off pavement.
Good luck with it.
