The GTP car might be the best investment as there were only a few built for GM. Rare car with a race history might be worth some big bucks in the future. The DP would be a great car to take to the track for HPDE events.

I talked to David Hobbs about the GTP cars as I was trying to gather data for a replica build of the GoodWrench car...

He said the GTP cars were brutal...V6 turbos and when they spooled up you better hope it was aimed in the right direction. Said they were a blast to drive...but you had to give it 100% concentration or you were toast.

I'd say that with today's engine management systems and such...you could get it just as fast with milder manners.

I'd take a GTP car first...but wouldn't kick either one out of my garage.

A guy I know here does just that. I was doing a Tech Inspection on it last year and snapped a few pics.

The car's a Crawford.
It sat on the pole at the "25 Hours of ThunderHill" NASA race. I ran that race in a Miata and constantly hoped he wouldn't run me over on the straight,

Here's a link to the eBay posting of a Porsche powered DP car that sold a couple weeks ago:

I wonder if an LS7 or LS9 would fit in that chassis. Hmmmm

Mongoose Motorsports builds a replica of the GTP...

It is designed to use C5 suspension and the engine/trans/diff of the C5.

An LS7 fits fine...I'd opt for a Mendeola Transmissions trans-axle. An LS7 will bolt right up, and shorten the drivetrain up by about 18".

Ah...then yes, I see the point.

It (GTP) had a N/A V8 in the later ones...so I don't see why an LSx wouldn't work in there as well. It'll stuff the "originality" and ding the resale, but sure would be fun to give it a try.

The DP is a tube frame car and is an evolution of front engine road race cars built from stock car chassis, then independent rear suspension added, and finally rear-mid-engine developed.

The GTP is built more like an aircraft and built more like the Formula 1 cars of the time. It also has a structurally stressed engine and transmission.

If I had cubic money I'd buy an authentic early racer with documented racing history. Maybe something like this:

Both of mine have documented race history.

Can Am is very cool but both my Crew Chief & Coach said it would probably kill me

GTP is def more pure high tech racer than DP but DP sure is a blast to drive. Haven't driven GTP yet. Hope GTP will b on track in April at Daytona.

Default GTP Corvette's

Only 7 GTP Corvettes were built but a number of replica cars seem to be showing up and claiming to be original.
Of the 7 built, 2 were V-8's (first & last cars built) and the others were turbo V-6's.
One was T-600 with the GTP body and used as a prototype.

First went to Lee Racing & the last to Peerless Racing the others sent to Hendricks Motorsport.

Great cars and a mile stone in Corvette racing history.

Long term I would pass on both and go for a Pratt and Miller with LeMans history.

LeMans is the ultimate provenance. If you could find one that won it's class you would be se for the next few decades.

Just ask Lance Miller about LeMans provenance. He has a couple of the best ones.

The GTPs were a big reason why I am a sportscar racing fan. Love the Corvette, Jags and 962s. I was not a fan of the DPs especially since I didn't like the Grand Am split. However, the DP may cost less to vintage race.
