Porsche will head into next month's 24 Hours of Le Mans with a slight increase in power, with GTE-Pro class Aston Martins marginally heavier following the latest Balance of Performance adjustments announced Wednesday by the FIA Endurance Committee.

After a dominant performance at last month's FIA World Endurance Championship season-opening Six Hours of Silverstone, the Aston Martin Vantage V8s have been hit with a 10kg increase in minimum weight for its GTE-Pro entries only, with the specifications remaining unchanged in GTE-Am, a class which enforces the use of one year old models.

Porsche's new 911 RSR, along with its 997-based GT3 RSR will benefit from a 0.3mm larger air restrictor beginning next month at Le Mans. The adjustment for the 997 model is also applicable to GTE-Am.

No changes have been made to the Ferrari F458 Italias, which swept the GTE-Pro and Am class victories at Spa last month, nor to the U.S.-based Corvette and Vipers, which will join the FIA WEC regulars at Le Mans.

However, the Corvette C6.R will run 25kg lighter at Le Mans than most recently seen in the American Le Mans Series round at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, which was due to an IMSA-imposed BoP adjustment.

Teams will get their first impressions of the changes at the official Le Mans Test day on June 9.

The FIA Endurance Committee released Friday its expected final set of Balance of Performance adjustments to GTE competitors prior to next weekend's 24 Hours of Le Mans (Live! SPEED).

Following last month's pre-test day changes, which saw a 10kg weight increase for the GTE-Pro Aston Martin Vantage V8s and a 0.3 mm restrictor increase for both Porsche 911 models, the Aston Martin has been handed a further 10kg weight penalty, while the Corvette C6.R will also have to carry 10kg of additional weight.

The SRT Viper GTS-R, on the other hand, has been given a 10kg weight break and 5 additional liters of fuel capacity, bringing its tank up to 95 liters, the same size as the Aston Martin.

The same changes have also been made in GTE-Am, with the Aston now running with identical weight (1225kg) as the GTE-Pro model. The changes to the Corvette are for GTE-Pro only and still puts the car 15kg lighter than run in ALMS trim.

The latest round of BoP changes comes in wake of Sunday's official test day, which saw Aston Martin sweep the time sheets in both categories.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is set for June 22-23, with Live! flag-to-flag coverage on SPEED and SPEED.com.

All I know is, P&M has computer models showing right where weight needs to go when its added. Thecweight is certainly a factor, but I recalled reading they imposed a different tire compound on the vettes that porsche and aston have used already. With no data on that compound I think it mustve just skewed their whole aero/chassis setup and made them slow.

Whatever happened, it made them 3.5 sec slower than last yr, thats a fact. I just think they wanted to ensure a european win...

During the 2013 race, the Corvette's fastest times were about a second slower last year's fastest times. They were the only ones to go slower than their 2013 times.
Last year the Aston's fastest race lap was about a second faster than the rest of the field and the Porsches were well off the pace. This year, the fastest Aston was more than .5sec faster than everyone else and the new Porsches were a significant upgrade.

The Porsches were way faster because they were a new 991 and used the new Michelin tire previously at the 6hrs of SPA last month. Corvette did not do that.
You matched the Astons and Porsches just drive away from them on the straights..........the car was just too slow, but it ran flawlessly. And was very fortunate in 4th because good drivers /teamwork. The lack of top end really showed at the very fast track.....

Rx, they were running 3:55's last yr and 3:59's this year....a hell of a lot more than a second. Astons ran 3:54's and Porsches ran 3:55's this yr. They pushed them out....

The times I stated are correct. Note that they are RACE laps. You can look at the time sheets yourself if you would like to confirm. Vipers and vettes both dropped time on Sunday and were in the 3:57s.
Fastest 2012 corvette RACE lap was a 3:56.1
Fastest 2013 corvette RACE lap was a 3:57.0

Fastest 2012 Aston RACE lap was a 3:54.9
Fastest 2013 Aston RACE lap was a 3:54.6

Pretty similar to the situation in 2012, but the vettes were slow out of the box on Saturday and in qualifying. I assume the corvettes had the new tires for the test days, which seems like enough time to get used to them.

The Astons and the Porsches were the lightest cars and with the largest restrictors.
