2nd Gen ABS on a Pre-01?
I'm asking this here vs the regular c5 forum as I don't see why anyone would want to do it for regular street driving.
Has anyone ever swapped, or know if I can swap a 2nd gen abs module with the electronic bias and lighter abs module into a pre-01 car?

I'm curious about this as well. With the prior EBCM's issues, it'd be nice to be able to refit a newer, more readily available unit.

You'd probably have to look at a few things
1) the harnesses, and pin outs for the ABS module and everything it connects to (ecu, and anything else). I dont see why those would not be similar, but you never know
2) you'd have to make sure that the new unit is getting all the signals it needs from everything (eg, the wheel speed sensors, ecu, etc)
3) rewire and presto you are good.
Anyone with an FSM can get you on your way to knowing about number 1. However, I kinda like the pre 01 units, as when they fail, you still have the ability to brake without any of that bias non sense. Sure, you dont have ABS... but you can still race!

Dont be so sure that the 01 and later parts are readily available. 2 years ago my abs pump went out, dealer wanted $2400... but said the part had been discontinued.

The gen2 parts are readily available used, for reasonable prices.
I am not sure of the mechanical aspect of the gen1 proportioning, but I know there is a bias spring that will need to be removed.
Other issue is confirming that the data from the PCM to EBCM is compatible (probably is). The TCS switch signal should be compatible as well.

Also may need to replumb the system as GM changed to a dual diagonal system without a brake bias spring in the 01s and newer.

Have a bad pump/ABS (leaks badly) on my 99FRC. So where is a source for a good used system? I do have an 2003 pump/ABS but have not seen where someone has swapped to a 99 system.
