Default how to prime a dry power steering system?

C5 how do I get fluid flowing in a dry power steering system? New pump and rack. Turning wheel flush method does nothing I tried for an hour. Tried rotating the pump pulley no dice. Which direction does the pulley turn while running?

If you really want pull the pressure line off the steering rack and get fluid running through the pump down to the rack. If you can turn the pump by hand either direction will work *ok*, you're turning so slow that there's no real pumping action, you're just trying to fill air pockets up.

As far as direction goes, you can determine direction by just bumping the starter and having someone watch the pump.

If you *still* can't it primed, hook everything up, fill the tank FULL, and start the engine for just a second. Refill and repeat.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

Car is in pieces, can't start it or bump no power. I used a pressure bleeder to force fluid up the return line. From there rotating lock to lock got it going. Thanks!

When I installed my rack, we just left the top off the reservoir and just kept turning the steering wheel from stop to stop. Bubbles kept coming up in the reservoir and we kept topping off and turning. Finally, after a lot of turns, it seemed to be full.

All with the engine off, BTW.

Yeah Falcon that's how I usually do it, I must have had a massive air bubble somewhere, I messed with it for hours before I gave up. Borrowed a pressure bleeder this morning and that did the trick. Just had to get it started and then it went.

Is the center of the pump shaft threaded? If so, put a piece of threaded rod in there with a jam nut and use a drill to spin the pump.

With the turn one pump you could just chuck the end in a drill to spin it, but the EBCM needs to come out of the way.
