Default How much longer will GM make LS7 crate motors

Kind of wondering what people thought about this considering the fact the LS6's went away.

Rumor is that a direct injected, variable valve timing version of the LS7 will be in the C7 Z06. That would keep these motors around for a long time.

But that would be more an LT7 as opposed to an LS7, no?

I would imagine the LS7 gets a shorter run than the LS3, though it should stick around as long as e-rod type LS7 sales are profitable.

Wouldn't a DGI LS7 have different pistons as well as heads? The heads would have injector ports and the piston crowns are probably different too. Not much would interchange with the current LS7 long/short block if that's the case.

I was under the impression that the new Camaro Z28 was going to be delivered with the LS7 rated for 500hp because of small exhaust routing differences. If that is the case, I'd say they will be around for a bit longer.

They are pretty cool looking, like what Chevy did with the tail lights and the idea of a 427 in a Camaro is very cool!

There is a 32 page Sae paper on the Lt1 showing they'd started with a ls7 head with di injectors initially. The port/chamber design was knock prone on the 87 octane target, so they went through 3 more iterations to srrive at the production design. With the interactions and packaging required, it appears a high performance LT7 version would basically need to be a scaled up version of the LT1 head. Offset rockers might be required for bigger ports, but could be justified with the higher price point.

If you had a stash of LT4's, and a stash of LS6's in your garage. You'd be able to retire.
