Internal ply separation; not always a pin pointable reason.

haha !
I had a feeling that's what I would see when the pics loaded up !
I had the exact same thing happen to me on a pair of A6's scrubs I installed after only a few laps. I theorized it was too much air pressure when seating the bead..but that's complete guess-work on my behalf. I bet there are alot more of these out there.

Bummer because it would really suck if it came apart in a high speed corner.

Did you speak to Hoosier when it happened?

What is the date code on that tire? What air pressures? What temps?

We have seen this several times on A6s and R6s that are a couple of years old being run in high temps, and especially on a roval with sustained speed on the banking.

I looked all over and couldn't figure out where the date code was on these tires. I'll look again when I get back out to the car.

I had an A6 do that at Charlotte Motor Speedway after about 2 laps. The tire had a few heat cycles on it. It was on the right front with about 26#'s starting pressure, and the ambient temps was in the 90's.

I had another A6 do the same thing at Roebling Road also after about 2 laps. Same pressure but this time it was on the left front. Ambient temps in the 80's.

Both tires had 2010 build dates, but different months.

Jody,

That was last year, right? So the tire was two years old.

It happened in 2011. I think the CMS tire didn't have enough pressure, what pressure do you guys run on the O/S tires when on the roval?

There's a stamped 4 digit number engraved in the sidewall. Something like 4210 or 2508 .

It broke the steel belt!! I had that happen on 2 R6s last year. Contact Hoosier!! They covered both of mine!! The tire should not do that, it is a flaw in construction. JD

Wouldn't that be nice...

Mike, I think the date codes were mid 2012. Look for a slightly raised up oval about 1" wide and 1/2" tall. it's only one one sidewall, not both so look on the other side if you can't find it right away. You will find 4 numbers stamped into the flat rubber. I could swear they were something like 1226 or similar. I bought those from Jon Berget and he generally sells tires that are 2 years old or less.

If you got them new from a dealer. I think they will replace them!! If you got them as take off's I don't think they will. In my case I bought them new. I had to go back through the dealer and they replaced them. It is worth a try!! JD
