Default Soup Can Tie Rod End Photos requested

I see a few threads that mention modifying a soup can to protect tie rod ends .... was wondering if anyone had a photo of this :-)

Just wrap them in heat tape.

No, soup cans should only be used for brake inlet ducting after cutting a circular hole in the bumper. Works best in C4's....

I used them once I realized the heat tape didn't cover everything. I don't have any pictures but they are pretty simple to make. Start with a soup can and cut it in half length wise, then cut the half cylinder in half. That should get you close in sizing. Then drill a hole large enough to fit over the tie rod end stud in the end and fit to the tie rod. You will have to cut and trim a few times to get it shaped correctly and so it fits between the rotor and tie rod end. There isn't much room between the two and the can will take up about half of it. They will get rusty but you really can't see them unless you are under the car.

Or you can leave the soup cans in the recycle bin and get these spendy high buck heat shields from Lambert for $39.00

Yes, those will also protect the ball joint boots.

Even with these you can still roast your tie rod ends, ask me how I know
Thank god you can simply replace the rubber boot with one of these, Energy Suspension/Ball Joint Boot 9.13127G
After I installed these I used a lot of heat tape, like suggested, that in combination with the above mentioned heat shield has been holding up to abuse for two years now.

I have the Lambert Spindle duct Brake Cooling kit solution on my base C6. Works great and the spindle kit now includes the heat shields. (not shown in the photo). They look like they should do a great job. The entire kit has lowered my rotor temps about 100deg so I'm happy. They are also a great company to deal with.

I expect I will upgrade the ball joint seals between seasons and make sure everything looks good on the control arm bushings, etc.
