Adding vented hood before going to full aero?
Folks,
Does it make any sense to piece together an aero setup? I know you can't really go spoiler unless you go splitter and front breather and that's a pretty big commitment. But the C5 could certainly use a little less lift at high speed in the front end and I was wondering if a vented hood only can make strides in that department? If so anyone have a recommendation for a hood that reduces front end lift the best?

you will see the difference also, you hood will no longer bulge upward from the pressure tracked in the engine bay. Re-direct air that is spilling under the car, so that it is "sucked" out of the top, and you get an overall reduction in lift.
You have to kill the bottom-breathing style of the C5 to make any downforce at all, but every little bit helps as far as I'm concerned.

I had a set of these made in Aluminum for a customers car, very reasonable and easy to rivet into place. Not as fancy as a custom hood, but effective. I don't have a finished photo handy

Thanks David. Not sure what I'm looking at here though? Vented aluminum panel? Cut the hood out and rivet that in place? I own a machine shop so I could crap that out in a matter of minutes, but not sure how I feel about my skills cutting the hood to pieces. Have a DXF file by any chance?

You can google hood louvers and there is a website that sells louvers similar to what David is showing.

i converted my c5 to a front breather with a cheap duraflex front mini splitter (2 inches) and vented my front hood and laid my radiator forward. I run no rear wing and either 305 or a 315 square setup and the car runs great. A front vented hood is a good investment. IMO modifying your own hood is the way to go.
