Default Would you run this rotor?

I spoke to the guys at Wilwood and they seem to think the crack on the top is not a major issue and that I should monitor it but that the rotor has time left in it. I'm looking for a second opinion because I want some reassurance so here goes.

Looks like it will last for another session or two, depending on your driving. Bring spare rings.

Thanks. I did this to them in 8 sessions so if they make it two, that would round it out at ten sessions per rotor. That might make me go with the LG kit so I can crack cheap rotors.

My theory is pretty simple and hasn't let me down yet... if a crack doesn't go all the way through and you can't feel it with the "fingernail test" it's good to go.

It's hard to see in that photo but it goes halfway through so based on your rule I should be good to go.

Once the crack goes thought the middle of the rotor, its days are limited (usually). But, there are exceptions.
You may want to look into an alternate rotor setup. What year is your car?

Thanks for your help on this. The car is an 01. What options do I have?

KNS 2 piece setup.
Hardbar 2 piece is a more expensive option.

They are OEM-sizeds replacements, not sure what Wilwood setup you have.

I don't have the LG ones so I don't think I can run OEM size.

Ken just came out with a Wilwood kit that comes bundled with his rotors - http://forums.corvetteforum.com/auto...em-rotors.html

Cheap rotors are appealing until you spend all your spare time changing them or miss a session b/c you notice one is cracked on your way to the grid.

The Wilwood isn't a cheap rotor. That size rotor ring will probably cost around $250 plus shipping. Not sure any other two piece rotor will last any longer.

And they are cracking after 8 sessions. I've gotten 8 sessions off of napa rotors plenty of times.

What pads are you using on them? Any cooling?

8 sessions is crazy. On my C4 (a heaver car with massive straight line speed) with the Wilwood GT 48 Rotors I got 20 sessions + out of them regularly. They seemed to last forever. Usually when I finally did swap a ring, I would still keep it as a spare.

Like my Mom always told me about food:
"If in doubt, throw it out".

I'm a bit over safety conscious, but I wouldn't run that.
No way I'm risking my safety and/or the condition of my expensive race car trying to squeak out a few more sessions from a cracked rotor.

I got a whopping 9 sessions out of this PerformanceAFX ring:

I'm not running it any more!!

I think I'm gonna go back to much cheaper one piece rotors.
