Barber Motorsports park/NASA February event
I signed up for the NASA event in February and then discovered a 101 db sound limit. A question for those that run at BMP - how far off track do they place the sensor? Do they typically place the monitor in the same location?
Thanks,
Jim

I'm the one who asked and found out about it and confirmed with NASA-SE. Track told me the mic is drivers left, that is all. Point them down or right if you can. I'm adding these to help:

I'm fitting them and will have them in the toolbox ready to insert if I get a meatball. A recent DE had a cup car there that did not get warned so it seems the enforcement might be light but it is best to be prepared.

Nice seeing you at MSRH this past weekend. Looking forward to Barber. I should be running under the radar based on the sound levels we took in the paddock.

My junk apparently may be a little too loud... we will see! Thanks for the use of the sound meter! How did you end up? I was finally able to put up a 1.40.1 in the final race as I learned the CCW direction.

I have a friend that was at Barber last year running headers and Borla's (very loud). He didn't get a meatball.........

I did a 140.8 my second session. I had a few better runs going on Sunday but had transmission problems and could not best it.

The sound meter has usually been placed in a friendly spot near museum turn where you aren't going to be full throttle or loudness and the corner station is pretty far back.

18 days and counting down. 42 registered for Time Trials and 53 for Thunder. Should be a fun event:

You should look at Lightning. I am running in ST3 and they put us in Lightning with the bumper cars due to the high number of Thunder Roadsters in ST3. Not sure how I feel about being on track with e30s and Miatas that cost a fraction of my car.

We were going but looked at the amount of track time plus all the cars (50 plus). Going to sit this one out. IMHO I think with 15 minutes to practice and qualify that for the most part the track will be under FCY.

I cancelled, best of luck guys. For the race group, the lack of track time (vs a DE driver) meant I had to "supersize" to HPDE4 for another $250 (TT was full) in order to learn the track. If you already know the track than that certainly makes the time less of an issue. For me, that meant $650 total in registration. One "warmup" Sunday for *all* race groups (150 cars) meant no real warm up or testing any changes for Race 2. No qualifying Sunday meant that as I learn the track Saturday doing HPDE4, quali, race, and more DE4 sessions after race 1; no matter what my starting position Sunday in the 50 car race group was dictated by my finishing position Saturday. I'm a little too competitive to tow 700mi one way, pay that much money, and know I had little chance of showing well even in Race 2. Looking forward to seeing and hearing about the great scraps in ST2, it should be epic, especially for those that already know the track!
